Nat’l Institute of Ayurveda reaches out to transgenders

Jaipur: The National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) held a meeting with 25 transgenders of the city to know about their health issues.
“Transgenders are part of the society just like others. The initiative taken by NIA is quite encouraging for us as they talked about our health and wellbeing. Normally, the health department talks about HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases but it is for the first time that an institution like NIA has approached us and asked about our health and issues related to nutrition,” said Pusha Mai, a transgender community leader.
NIA vice-chancellor Sanjeev Sharma said that all facilities available at NIA would be given free of cost to transgenders. he also requested transgenders for support in health-related survey and health camps.
