Karnataka: Threats to attack Muslim women who remove burqa and hijab in public places
A social media group has said that women wearing burqa in public places should not open it or take selfies. The group has threatened to attack Muslim girls if they remove the burqa and hijab in public places.
Bangalore : Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that a social media group claiming itself to be a defender of the rights of Muslims has said that Burqas in public places Women wearing Public Spaces should not open it or take selfies. Along with this, the police said that the social media group has threatened to attack Muslim girls if they remove the burqa and hijab in public places. “We are keeping a watch on it,” the police commissioner said.
In Karnataka, the matter related to hijab has been in the headlines for some time now. The Karnataka High Court in its recent judgment had held that wearing hijab is not a compulsory religious practice of Islam.
Also, the court had said that the students cannot refuse to wear the uniform. The court had also dismissed the petition filed by Muslim girl students in this case.
After this decision of the court, the girl students wearing hijab in the examinations held in Karnataka were not allowed to enter the examination hall. Due to this some girl students did not even give the exam.
