First Dalit officer drafted into KCR’s CMO
For the first time, a Dalit officer will be appointed to the Telangana Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). CM KCR announced in the Huzurabad meeting on Monday that he would hand over the responsibility of overseeing the ‘Dalit Bandhu’ scheme launched by the government to Rahul Bojja.
Bojja is appointed as secretary in Chief Minister’s Office. It is noteworthy that this is the first time that a Dalit official has been appointed to the CMO after the formation of Telangana.
A 2000 year batch IAS officer, Rahul Bojja, is presently secretary of the SC & ST development department and also in charge of the disaster management wing. He previously served as Agriculture Secretary and Commissioner. Rahul is the son of the late Bojja Tarak, a prominent lawyer and rights leader.
This decision from the KCR came after Etela Rajender and other parties pointed out that the CM did not induct any Dalit IAS officer in the CMO. The TRS government also felt that Bojja’s appointment may put an end to the criticisms while taking up a massive programme like Dalit Bandhu.
