Dalit killed in assault over land dispute
Indore: A group of Dalits who had gone to take possession of their controversial farmland in Kalva village of Gautampura were attacked by members of an upper caste community leading to the death of a man on Friday night.
DIG Chandrashekhar Solanki said Shantilal, 40, Meherban, 35, Mayaram Singh, 60, Sanju Bai, 40, Sangeeta, 35, Hukum, 55 and Ramesh 62, were injured in the incident. A relative Lakhan Solanki told police that the injured had gone to their farmland when a group of men including Babu Rajput, Tufan, Pawan, Nagu and Jitendra reached there and started an altercation with them.
After a while over two dozen more men reached the spot and attacked the family members. All were rushed to MY hospital with severe injuries where Mayaram succumbed during treatment on Friday night. Family members claimed that Babu Singh had illegally encroached on Mayaram’s land.
DIG said that a case of rioting was registered against the accused on Thursday and sections of murder were added after the death of the injured. tnn
