Minor dalit girl molested in Pilibhit; 5 booked
PILIBHIT: Five men were booked on Wednesday for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old dalit girl and trying to strip her after barging into her house in UP’s Pilibhit district.
The accused also thrashed the girl’s 18-year-old brother when he attempted to help her.
An FIR was lodged against the men, all between 18 years and 20 years, on the orders of the officer in-charge of Tehsil Diwas, a day specified by the UP government to redress public grievances at the district level.
The incident took place on the evening of November 15 but Sungarhi police station allegedly declined to lodge an FIR. The brother filed a fresh complaint during Tehsil Diwas on November 18.
The complainant stated that the accused knocked on their door and when his sister opened it, they molested her and tried to strip her. Hearing her screams, he rushed to her rescue but was hit on the head with an iron bar. When he fell down, the accused continued to kick him brutally, he alleged.
He approached police the same day with a written complaint but they sent him for a medical examination without lodging an FIR. Encouraged by police inaction and to teach him a lesson for going to the cops, the accused entered his house again on November 17 carrying weapons. They vandalised his house and beat him and his sister, the complainant stated.
SHO Sanjeev Shukla said the five accused, who lived in the victim’s neighbourhood, were booked under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 354 (use of criminal force to a woman intending to outrage her modesty), 354 B (use of criminal force to a woman with intent to disrobe her), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 427 (committing mischief and thereby causing loss or damage to the amount of Rs 50 or upwards) and sections of the scheduled caste and tribes Act. They are yet to be arrested, he added.
