Fake FIR on increasing rape cases in Rajasthan! Know the surprising ‘bitter’ truth
In Nagaur, Rajasthan, 13 cases of rape or POCSO were reported in about three months. They can also be called liars or the matter came to naught due to consent/agreement. Of these, five cases were of Dalit women or girls. In three cases, the victim rejected the police’s suggestion of getting her medically examined.
Crime against women is increasing, especially rape or molestation, not only innocent minors, young women or married women, but even middle-aged women are becoming victims. A quarter of the girls or minors who ran away from home, on their return, file a case of rape against the person with whom they ran away. This is actually the case in Nagaur (Didwana-Kuchaman) district.
It has also come to light that about 20 percent of the cases are being ‘settled’ in the initial phase itself. After presenting the challan, about 30 percent of the cases are settled with consent. Not only the police, even the lawyers representing such cases admit that after a long trial, only one-fourth of the cases are such in which the accused gets punished and the victim does not bow down.
Sources say that there are many cases which reach the police stations, as soon as the police think of taking action, all avenues of further progress are closed. The accused party and later the victim informs the police about the compromise. Many such cases were in discussion recently.
In one case, obscene photos of a teacher with a student went viral, after which a case was registered. Don’t know what happened in this case that the police did not even bother to arrest the accused. After a few days, the victim compromised and surrendered.
Sources reveal whether the victim is a minor or an adult, Dalit or general. It is not making any difference. The process of disposal of the case starts even before it reaches the court from the police station. In more than half the cases, the victim retracts her statement. Apart from political pressure along with relatives, money also plays a role in the agreement. There is a provision to give a maximum compensation of Rs 5 lakh to a POCSO victim, while a Dalit victim also gets this compensation in different installments from the time of filing of FIR to presentation of challan and till the decision is taken.
Case-1
In Sadar police station area, a woman filed a rape case against her own relative, a young man, on false pretenses. The report said that she left him after a live-in relationship for several days. When the police started investigation, a settlement was reached on the third day.
Case-2
Some time ago, an obscene video of a schoolgirl (minor) with a teacher went viral. Later the police also registered a case. This POCSO case was suppressed, the teacher’s brother was in a senior position. It was heard that resignation took place here also. Neither arrest nor police station-court.
Case-3
A minor was raped by two youths of the same village. After the gang rape, the accused were also arrested, after a few days an agreement was reached between the two parties. The victim even changed her statement. The victim and the accused were from the same village.
That’s why false cases are increasing
Two-two and a half months ago, there was a fight between neighbors in a nearby village. One party lodged a case of rape of a minor in the police station. Later the case was found to be false, it was registered only to harass. False cases of rape/molestation are also filed for non-payment of loan amount, land grab/dispute, to settle old enmity or to extort huge sums of money.
Five years of reality
According to statistics, in the five years from 2019 to 2023, only about 900 cases of POCSO (molestation/rape of a minor) were registered, whereas in the case of adult girls/women, this number was more than seventeen hundred. In this way, about 40 percent of the 2600 cases were settled through compromise. There were many such cases in which the victim later reversed her statements.
