Dalit sarpanch tied to tree and beaten in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena; one person arrested
Morena, (PTI) A Dalit sarpanch was allegedly tied to a tree and beaten in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, forcing him to leave his native village. Following a complaint, police have arrested one of the accused.
A police official said on Friday that the sarpanch of Kautharkalan panchayat, in his complaint to Porsa police station on Thursday, said that goons had been harassing him for the past two years and the miscreants wanted him to resign from his post and hand over his ‘dongle’, which contained his ‘digital signature password’, to them.
When he refused to comply with their demands, he was taken to the outskirts of Kautharkalan on May 3, tied to a tree and beaten up, the official said, quoting the complaint.
Ambah’s Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) Ravi Bhadoria said, ‘Based on the complaint of the Sarpanch, a case has been registered against Diwakar Singh Tomar and his brother Pinku. Diwakar was later arrested. The investigation into the case is ongoing.’
