5 get life sentence for killing Baran Dalit man
Kota: A Scheduled Caste and Scheduled tribe (SC/ST) court in Baran convicted five persons, including four members of a family to life term in jail on Friday for murdering a 27-year-old Dalit man in Baran city around seven years ago.
The court convicted Amarlal Jeengar, his threesons, Rohit, Rahul and Dheeraj and their aide, Gaurav Rajput a Dalit man, identified as Virendra Raiger in Raiger Basti, Nayapura in Baran city in November 2015, said special public prosecutor at SC/ST court, Baran, Aawesh Singh.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on each of the four convicts from the same family and Rs 50,000 on Gaurav Rajput under section 302 of IPC and under section of SC/ST Act, he added.
According to Singh, the convicts on November 2, 2015, attacked Virendra Raiger and his 11-year-old brother Imlesh with sticks and stones in their neighbourhood and the two sustained critical injuries.
He added, Virendra succumbed to injuries during treatment at hospital following which the police, on the basis of survived Imlesh’s statements, lodged a case of murder against Amarlal Jeengar, his 3 sons, Rohit, Rahul and Dheeraj and Gaurav under section 147, 149, 232, 337 241 and 302 of IPC. Additional sections of SC/ST Act were incorporated against Gaurav Rajput and the charge sheet was filed against the five.
SC/ST court judge Shanuj Kulshrestha held the five accused guilty of murder under sections of IPC, the special public prosecutor added.
Statements of at least 24 witnesses were recorded during the trial in the court, he added.
