Anantapur: Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Chinta Mohan called for unity among Dalit communities and demanded Scheduled Caste (SC) status for Dalit Christians, while criticising several policies of Central and State governments.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, he alleged that recent judicial interpretations and policy decisions have adversely affected Dalit Christians by denying them reservation benefits in education and employment. He stated that the Congress party would include the issue in its election manifesto and promised to push for a constitutional amendment to restore SC status if the party comes to power in 2029.

Mohan also criticised the choice of Amaravati as the state capital and referred to earlier proposals supporting Tirupati as a potential capital.
