Rajgarh police took action following a complaint from a Dalit laborer. She was pressuring him to convert to Christianity by promising him money and other benefits.
Mirzapur: District police arrested a 32-year-old woman on Saturday for allegedly attempting to forcibly convert. The arrest came following a complaint filed by a Dalit laborer alleging that the woman was repeatedly persuading him to convert to Christianity by luring him with money and other benefits.
Police said the accused woman has been identified as Pramila. A case has been registered against her at the Rajgarh police station under relevant sections of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.
Rajgarh Police Station Station House Officer (SHO) Daya Shankar, providing details of the case, said, “The accused, Pramila, was arrested on Saturday and later produced before a local court in Mirzapur, where she was remanded to judicial custody.”
According to police, complainant Dhruv Chandra stated in his complaint that the accused woman had been meeting him repeatedly for the past few months and pressuring him to convert to Islam.
Investigation revealed that the complainant lives in the Rampur-38 area, while the accused woman is a resident of Chandanpur village, about 7 kilometers away. Police sources also claim that Pramila’s husband had strongly objected to these activities, leading to frequent conflicts within the family.
