Members of Karnataka Rajya Chalavadi Mahasabha and other organisations took to the streets in Hubballi on Monday against the recent honour killing in Inam Veerapur village in Dharwad district in which a pregnant woman passed away.
Protestors condemned the murder of the pregnant woman by her family members who were upset that she married a Dalit. They demanded death penalty for the accused.
They walked from Ambedkar Circle to the Tahsildar’s office to express their protest.
They said that attacks against Dalits and cases of families killing their women who marry Dalits are increasing and demanded steps to stop such acts.
They also demanded compensation to the families of victims. It is unfortunate that in the land of Basavanna, Dalits are not able to live peacefully.
Mahasabha president Parameshwar Kale and others were present.
