The programme will provide culinary training, mentorship and industry exposure to improve employability in the food and hospitality sector
Nestlé India has launched Kaabil, its flagship culinary internship programme for the transgender community, aimed at building industry-relevant skills and improving employability in the food and hospitality sector.
The initiative is being delivered through Nestlé Professional and driven by BEACON, the company’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group. It seeks to create greater access to livelihood opportunities by equipping participants with practical culinary skills and professional exposure.
The 15-day programme will cover kitchen fundamentals, regional and international cuisines, recipe development, live cooking, professional readiness and career guidance. Participants will receive hands-on training from Nestlé chefs, mentorship and industry exposure through a partnership with the Indian School of Hospitality.
Kaabil is being implemented in collaboration with the Sahodari Foundation and TWEET Foundation across three regional kitchens in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, enabling participants to develop the skills and confidence required for careers in the hospitality industry.
Commenting on the initiative, Saurabh Makhija, Director – Nestlé Professional, Nestlé South Asia, said the programme combines structured mentorship, culinary expertise and real-world industry exposure to equip participants with skills valued by the food service industry while encouraging a more inclusive future for the sector.
Nitu Bhushan, Director – Human Resources, Nestlé South Asia, said meaningful inclusion is achieved by creating opportunities to learn, grow and thrive. She added that the initiative aims to empower members of the transgender community with industry-relevant skills and exposure while fostering an environment where talent is recognised regardless of background or identity.
Kaabil was first introduced as a pilot programme in 2025 in partnership with the Sahodari Foundation. During the pilot, two transgender women entrepreneurs from Tamil Nadu received culinary training and mentorship from Nestlé chefs to strengthen their catering businesses. Building on those outcomes, the 2026 edition expands the programme’s reach to support more individuals through structured skill development and career opportunities.
