Jamshedpur: A special MP-MLA court in Chaibasa has issued a non-bailable warrant against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with a 2018 defamation case and asked him to appear in person on June 26. The court rejected Gandhi's plea seeking exemption from personal appearance before issuing the warrant.

Pratap Katiyar, a local BJP leader, had filed the case for Gandhi’s remarks against then BJP president Amit Shah at the Congress party’s plenary session in 2018. The case was transferred to the special MP-MLA court in 2020 which then issued summons to Gandhi, but he did not appear, following which a bailable warrant was issued. Gandhi then approached the HC seeking a stay on the warrant. The HC disposed of the plea on March 20, 2024.
