Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said the police had given a clear clarification on the Pune incident where three Dalit girls alleged they were subjected to casteist slurs and humiliating treatment by a woman police officer during questioning. The incident sparked outrage, with political leaders and activists accusing Pune police of insensitivity and deliberate inaction.

In a clear message to the police, Fadnavis, while speaking to the media in Mumbai, said, “The police should take action as per law. They should not take any action under pressure. Whatever fits in the law, they may take all such action.”

The BJP criticised NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar for his behaviour with the police. BJP chief spokesperson Keshav Upadhye said Pawar had tried to intimidate the police even in the Jitendra Awhad case a few weeks ago.
