“Chirag Paswan Is Transgender,” Claims Bihar State Transgender Welfare Board Member, Dr. Rajan Singh, Calls for Public Acknowledgment

Dr. Rajan Singh, a Bihar State Transgender Welfare Board member, has sparked controversy by alleging that Union Minister Chirag Paswan belongs to the transgender community Dr. Rajan Singh claimed Chirag Paswan hides his transgender identity. He urged Paswan to acknowledge his identity publicly. Chirag Paswan is a former actor and current politician. Dr. Rajan Singh, a member of the Bihar State Transgender Welfare Board, has stirred controversy with his remarks targeting Union Minister Chirag Paswan. The video surfaced on instagram on August 27, 2025. In the video while speaking to the media, Dr. Rajan alleged that Chirag Paswan belongs to the transgender community but has been hiding his identity. He said there is no minister from the transgender community in the country and claimed that many transgender people in politics often hide their personality. He then created a stir by saying, Chirag Paswan is transgender. He has hidden his gender. The whole country and the world know that he is from the transgender community. Dr. Rajan further urged Paswan to speak openly about his identity, adding: If Chirag Paswan accepts his community publicly, we will all go to the streets and make him Chief Minister. But he does not speak. Chirag Kumar Paswan, currently serving as India’s 19th Minister of Food Processing Industries since June 2024, is a well-known politician from Bihar and has been the president of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) since 2021. The Bihar Assembly election is expected in later this year. Chirag is the son of the late Ram Vilas Paswan—veteran Union Minister and founder of the LJP—and Reena Sharma, a Punjabi Hindu air hostess from Amritsar. Ram Vilas Paswan, remembered for his calm nature and long-standing commitment to social justice, had a political career spanning over fifty years. He represented marginalized communities, served multiple terms in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and held several key ministerial portfolios. Before entering politics, Chirag Paswan briefly tried his hand at acting, appearing in the 2011 Bollywood film Miley Naa Miley Hum. He later shifted focus to politics, contesting and winning the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Jamui constituency in Bihar. Dr. Rajan’s comments have triggered discussion, bringing the question of gender identity into the political spotlight and placing Chirag Paswan in the middle of an unexpected controversy. “Gay grooming halftime show”: Jason Whitlock claims NFL is promoting demonic worship and pushing transgender agenda

The NFL’s announcement that Bad Bunny will headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show has triggered an explosive response from former sports columnist Jason Whitlock. Known for his outspoken conservative views, Whitlock accused commissioner Roger Goodell and the league of openly rejecting Christianity while pushing cultural agendas that clash with faith-based values. Jason Whitlock accuses NFL of targeting Christian fans with Bad Bunny choice Speaking on his show Fearless, Jason Whitlock didn’t hold back. “The National Football League despises Jesus, Christ and Christianity and Christian values,” he said, adding that the league was using the halftime stage as “a tool to promote demonic worship, demonic energy, gayness, transgenderism, anything that defiles Jesus Christ.” His fiery remarks came just hours after the NFL confirmed Bad Bunny would perform at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. For Whitlock, the decision was not simply about entertainment—it was, in his view, a calculated cultural signal. He questioned, “Need to ask Roger Goodell, how far is this going to go? Will Satan personally receive an invitation to perform at halftime next year?” The criticism taps into an ongoing clash between traditionalist fans and the NFL’s push toward diverse, globally minded halftime productions. With Roc Nation and Apple Music producing the show, the league has emphasized inclusion and cultural reach. But for critics like Whitlock, those choices represent a sharp break from the values they believe football once upheld. Call for boycott and church-led protests against the Super Bowl Whitlock went beyond criticism and called on Christian groups to take action. “We can make the NFL reverse course on this decision and or pay a price for this decision,” he said, urging churches to organize Sunday night worship services instead of tuning into the game. “There’s no way in heck I’m watching this Super Bowl not with this Bad Bunny gay grooming halftime show.” — PopBase (@PopBase) While Whitlock’s words reflect one end of the spectrum, others in the entertainment world have embraced the decision. Former halftime performers like Bruno Mars, Shakira, and Jennifer Lopez have voiced support for Bad Bunny, who is set to become the first solo Spanish-language artist to headline the event. The backlash highlights the cultural tug-of-war that continues to play out on one of the world’s biggest stages. For the NFL, the halftime show remains a chance to capture global audiences. For Whitlock and his followers, however, it’s another sign that the league is drifting away from the values they once held dear. Ignorant of how ignorant she is: JK Rowling slams Emma Watson amid trans rights row

JK Rowling publicly responded to Emma Watson’s comments on their relationship and transgender rights, calling her ignorant. The ‘Harry Potter’ author accused Watson of fuelling controversy during a period of personal threats and heightened security. JK Rowling issued a pointed response to recent remarks by Emma Watson regarding their differing views on transgender rights, reigniting a public dispute between the author and the actor. In a long post on X, Rowling said that the actor is “ignorant of how ignorant she is.” The author, whose statements on gender identity have previously sparked controversy, accused Watson of pouring “petrol in the flames” at a time when Rowling faced significant personal threats. Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the ‘Harry Potter’ film series, has publicly expressed support for transgender rights while also emphasising her ongoing respect for Rowling. Rowling addressed Watson’s approach to the controversy, stating, “Like other people who’ve never experienced adult life uncushioned by wealth and fame, Emma has so little experience of real life she’s ignorant of how ignorant she is.” She also added, “I’m not owed eternal agreement from any actor who once played a character I created. The idea is as ludicrous as me checking with the boss I had when I was twenty-one for what opinions I should hold these days.” She acknowledged it had been “hard to shake a certain protectiveness” after knowing Watson since she was ten. Rowling reflected on her longstanding relationship with Watson and described a “turning point” in her feelings after a moment during the 2022 BAFTA awards show, when Watson expressed solidarity with the trans community. She recalled, “Until quite recently, I hadn’t managed to throw off the memory of children who needed to be gently coaxed through their dialogue in a big scary film studio.” After the event, Rowling said she received “a postscript that hurt far more than the speech itself” from Watson, in the form of a note stating, “I’m so sorry for what you’re going through.” The author described a hard period when she received threats. “This was back when the death, rape and torture threats against me were at their peak, at a time when my personal security measures had had to be tightened considerably, and I was constantly worried for my family’s safety,” she stated. Rowling criticised Watson by saying, “Emma had just publicly poured more petrol on the flames, yet thought a one line expression of concern from her would reassure me of her fundamental sympathy and kindness.” The ‘Harry Potter’ author also commented on single-sex spaces, highlighting Emma Watson’s privileged upbringing. “Emma was ‘never likely to need’ to use the types of single-sex spaces she has campaigned against trans people having access to, such as changing rooms and public toilets,” she remarked. Explaining further, she wrote, “She’ll never need a homeless shelter. She’s never going to be placed on a mixed sex public hospital ward. I’d be astounded if she’s been in a high street changing room since childhood. Her ‘public bathroom’ is single occupancy and comes with a security man standing guard outside the door. Has she had to strip off in a newly mixed-sex changing room at a council-run swimming pool? Is she ever likely to need a state-run rape crisis centre that refuses to guarantee an all-female service? To find herself sharing a prison cell with a male rapist who’s identified into the women’s prison?” Reflecting on her own background, she said, “I wasn’t a multimillionaire at fourteen. I lived in poverty while writing the book that made Emma famous,” and asserted, “I therefore understand from my own life experience what the trashing of women’s rights in which Emma has so enthusiastically participated means to women and girls without her privileges.” Watson, in a podcast last week, discussed her outlook on differences with Rowling, saying, “It’s my deepest wish that I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with.” Expressing her support to the community, she had previously stated, “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.” Addressing Watson’s recent comments, Rowling, reiterating her stance, said, “a change of tack I suspect she’s adopted because she’s noticed full-throated condemnation of me is no longer quite as fashionable as it was.” She continued, “Adults can’t expect to cosy up to an activist movement that regularly calls for a friend’s assassination, then assert their right to the former friend’s love, as though the friend was in fact their mother. Emma is rightly free to disagree with me and indeed to discuss her feelings about me in public – but I have the same right, and I’ve finally decided to exercise it.” Watson, on the podcast, spoke about her connection to Rowling, stating she will always “treasure Jo” and expressed gratitude for the “kindness and words of encouragement” Rowling gave her during her formative years. Watson explained, “There’s just no world in which I could ever cancel her out, or cancel that out, for anything,” and added, “It has to remain true. It is true.” She concluded, “I just don’t know what else to do other than hold these two seemingly incompatible things together at the same time and just hope maybe they will one day resolve or co-join themselves, and maybe accept that they never will, but that they can both still be true.” Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe were among the stars who publicly disagreed with Rowling following the author’s comments on gender identity and biological sex, which sparked widespread debate. The author was criticised for being transphobic, but she denied the tag and said that she was worried about the effect of women in single-sex spaces. India Must Rethink School Curriculum to Uphold Transgender Rights

The classroom is India’s first frontier in the fight for transgender dignity The Supreme Court’s recent notice on a PIL advocating transgender-inclusive sexuality education has highlighted the need to make education more gender-sensitive and inclusive. The transgender community faces social stigma and exclusion in all aspects of life: social, economic, and political. Therefore, a school curriculum which includes transgender issues can help raise awareness, and, thereby, enable their integration in society. This apex court’s landmark judgment in the National Legal Services Authority v Union of India in 2014 recognised the rights of transgender persons in India to a ‘self-identified gender’, asserting their equality and prohibiting all forms of discrimination against them. The court issued directions to the Union government to ‘take steps to create public awareness’, and ‘take measures to regain their respect and place in society’, including their access to reservations in public education and employment. The court referred to the Yogyakarta Principles (2006), which recognise the need to provide education to eliminate prejudicial or discriminatory attitudes or behaviours pertaining to gender identity or gender expression. Endorsed by UN bodies and regional human rights bodies, these principles have been adopted by national courts in other countries such as Nepal. The Yogyakarta principles were used to provide legal recognition to same sex marriages. The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, which followed this judgment, provides for ‘inclusive education’ where transgender students learn together with other students without fear of discrimination, neglect, harassment, or intimidation. Inclusive education can, however, only be met if schools are safe spaces, with other children and teachers aware and supportive of transgender children. Transgender inclusive sexuality education can provide such awareness to teachers, children, and administrative staff, thus enabling inclusive schools. While the draft National Education Policy (NEP) had mentioned that sex education would be included in secondary school on issues of consent, harassment, respect for women, safety, family planning, and STD prevention, the final NEP removed sex education altogether. The PIL points to the lack of structured or examinable content on gender identity, gender diversity, and the distinction between sex and gender in the NCERT and SCERT curricula. The Supreme Court has asserted the need for sex education in the 2024 judgment of the Society for Enlightenment and Voluntary Action & Anr. v. Union of India. It referred to a decision of the European Court of Human Rights, which asserted young people’s right to sex education on the grounds that sex education is meant to prevent sexual violence and exploitation of children, and to prepare them for social realities. There is evidence on the positive impacts of including such education in the regular school curriculum. A study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) school students in the United States between Grades 6 and 12, aged 13 to 21, revealed that the majority (68.4%) were not taught topics on LGBT, while 31.6% had discussed LGBT-related topics. More than half of these students reported positive discussions on LGBT topics in courses on History, Social Studies, English, and Health, with the rest reporting negative discussions. Students with LGBT-inclusive curriculum as compared to those without such curriculum, were less likely to hear homophobic remarks, less likely to feel unsafe in school, less likely to miss school, and less than half as likely to have experienced higher levels of victimisation, compared to students in schools without an inclusive curriculum. This reveals the positive impact of a curriculum that includes LGBT-related issues in a positive manner, thus enabling better acceptance of all sexual minorities, including transgender persons. Given these benefits of including transgender-specific education not just in sexuality education but also in the general curriculum, this PIL, if successful, can begin the process of change through education and positively impact the lives of an extremely marginalised community in India. Need to integrate trans-inclusive science in medical education, says study

Not only in India, but globally, many medical schools dedicate few to no hours to LGBT health. NEW DELHI: Despite legal protections, Indian medical curricula still lack trans-affirmative competencies, skills essential for providing respectful, evidence-based care to transgender and gender-diverse individuals in the country, a latest study has said. As transgender people in India routinely face discrimination in health care, often encountering prejudice and ignorance from medical providers, the need of the hour is that India’s medical curricula integrate trans-inclusive science early in medical training so that the medical needs of transgender people are met, said the study published in the American journal Advances in Physiology Education. Not only in India, but globally, many medical schools dedicate few to no hours to LGBT health. Concerned by discrimination in healthcare and education, despite the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, which prohibits it, a first-of-its-kind study was conducted, bringing fresh hope – at least for India – if it is incorporated into medical education. In India, the National Medical Commission (NMC), which regulates medical education, has failed to adequately address LGBT health, said Dr Satendra Singh, Director Professor of the Department of Physiology at the University College of Medical Sciences and GTB Hospital, Delhi, and one of the study’s authors. “Unfortunately, the NMC has made repeated U-turns on including LGBTQI content in the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum, first in 2019 and again in 2024,” Dr Singh told this paper. As per the 2011 census, India has 4.88 lakh transgender persons. “It is the first study in India to integrate trans-affirmative competencies into the MBBS physiology curriculum longitudinally,” said Dr Singh, who was recently selected for the prestigious WHO South-East Asia region award for Public Health Champion in the individual category for championing disability inclusion in health systems and medical education. This groundbreaking study’s findings are crucial for the future of medical education in India. “The pilot study tried to integrate trans-affirmative competencies into the MBBS physiology curriculum using a mixed-methods approach,” said the primary author, Kozhikode-based Dr Athul KM. “Using health humanities tools like poetry, trigger films, and Theatre of the Oppressed, the curriculum enhanced student engagement and empathy. The study offers a scalable model for incorporating transgender health into early medical education, bridging curricular gaps and aligning with legal and professional mandates for inclusive health care,” said the study. Dr Prof (Dr) Aqsa Shaikh, Professor of Community Medicine, Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, and co-author of the study, said, “Where there is a will there’s a way. Through this pilot study, we have shown that even in the existing packed MBBS curriculum we can provide competencies that our future, global, inclusive doctors would need, when caring for historically marginalized groups.” “From dehumanisation in the old curriculum to human-centered approach in this pilot, we have taken a small step in the right direction for making healthcare accessible for vulnerable individuals and communities,” said Dr Shaikh, who identifies herself as a transgender woman. Delivered over 11 months, the pilot study effectively demonstrated that nearly 17 hours of gender-inclusive education can be embedded without disrupting existing teaching schedules. The study showed a remarkably high response rate of 92.4%, compared to less than 52% in similar studies. “Both facilitators and students expressed enthusiasm, with all facilitators agreeing that the competencies were suitable for first-year medical students and expressing a strong desire to incorporate them into future sessions,” Dr Singh added. The study said that integrating trans-inclusive science early in medical training is not just a curricular improvement: it is a legal, ethical, and professional necessity. “Without it, medical education remains complicit in the marginalization of the very communities it purports to serve,” the study said. Transgender people in India often require specialized care, including hormone replacement therapy (HRT), gender-affirming surgeries, and reproductive health services. However, these services are frequently unavailable or inaccessible, forcing individuals to either go without care or seek unsafe options from unqualified providers. This not only endangers physical health but also perpetuates stigma and marginalization. “Yet, medical education in India continues to emphasize the gender binary. Competencies in physiology, for example, still largely follow this outdated framework. Since physiology is a foundational subject in medicine, it must incorporate the concept of a gender spectrum as a normal physiological reality. Integrating a trans-affirmative physiology curriculum at the preclinical level would ensure a stronger, more inclusive foundation for all future doctors,” Dr Singh added. India’s biggest state introduces jobs, housing, and health support for trans people

The government of Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, has announced a major policy change to support its transgender population. The state’s flagship youth entrepreneurship initiative, known as the CM Yuva scheme, will now include transgender individuals as eligible participants. The expanded program will offer a range of support, including vocational training, access to interest-free loans, housing assistance, healthcare benefits, and pensions. The state is also setting up 100 dedicated welfare centers across its districts to provide skill-building opportunities in areas such as tailoring, digital literacy, culinary work, and beauty services. Each of Uttar Pradesh’s 75 districts is also expected to reserve two public sector job positions for transgender individuals. This marks a shift toward greater inclusion in employment and public life. “These steps are about giving dignity and opportunity to those who have been marginalized,” said Asim Arun, the state’s Social Welfare Minister. He emphasized that the government aims to bring transgender individuals into the mainstream through economic empowerment and social support. Transgender participants will also gain access to national welfare programs such as Ayushman Bharat for health coverage, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for housing, and other state-level subsidies and benefits. Officials say efforts are underway to carry out community surveys and awareness campaigns to ensure the program reaches those in need. The CM Yuva scheme was first launched in 2018 to support young entrepreneurs in Uttar Pradesh. It provides interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh (about USD 6,000) for small business ventures. To date, more than 40,000 people have benefited from the program. The government has allocated ₹1,000 crore (approximately USD 120 million) for the scheme in the 2024–2025 budget. With this new focus on transgender inclusion, the initiative aims to reduce economic inequality and promote broader participation in public life. Officials hope it will also set an example for other Indian states to follow. This development comes amid a growing national conversation about the rights and recognition of transgender people in India, where legal protections have improved but access to social and economic opportunities remains limited. Transgender doctor wins legal recognition case in India

Dr. Beoncy Laishram, known as the first openly transgender doctor from Northeast India, has won a major court case that allows her academic and medical certificates to finally match her identity. The Manipur High Court ruled in August that her school boards, university, and the state medical council must update her documents with her female name and gender. This means her records will now reflect the same identity already shown on her official IDs, like her Aadhaar and voter card. Dr. Laishram began her gender affirmation journey in 2019, but until now, many institutions refused to change her certificates. Without this recognition, she faced challenges in her professional life and personal dignity. The court said the order is about protecting the rights of transgender people and making sure they have documents that match who they are. Supporters believe this case will set an example for others across the region who are still struggling to update their records. Dr. Laishram first gained attention in 2020 for her role as a frontline doctor during the COVID-19 pandemic. Advocates say this ruling will make it easier for her to work without barriers caused by outdated paperwork. Legal experts also note that this decision could influence schools, universities, and professional bodies across India to make their systems more inclusive. For now, the ruling is seen as an important step toward equality for transgender professionals in the country. Villagers oppose free housing plots allotted to transgender persons in Chengalpattu

A group of transgender persons who were given free housing plots by the State government, along with pattas, in a village in Chengalpattu district, are facing opposition from an entirely unexpected quarter: opposition from the residents in the village. The transgender persons have gone on a protest, demanding that the district administration allow them to occupy the allotted lands and construct houses. Transwoman activist Negha, who has been protesting along with the allottees of the free housing plots, said the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had provided free housing plots to 37 transgender persons at Ozhalur in Chengalpattu district, at a function held in May last year. However, when they wanted to construct homes on the land allocated to them, they were faced with stiff opposition from the villagers and panchayat leaders, who have have been continuously obstructing the construction of houses on their land. On Thursday, things came to a head when the affected transgender persons gathered in front of the Chengalpattu Collector’s office. They appealed to the government authorities to provide them security, as they were being threatened by the residents of the village. Ozhalur village panchayat president O.E. Prabhakaran, however, claimed that the village was not opposed to the transgender persons using the land allotted to them. Their quarrel, he claimed, was about the location of the land granted to them. “The alloted vacant plot is the only place that is of flat terrain, which the children of the village have been using to play sports. We are ready to accommodate them in an alternate location,” he added. Charlie Kirk assassination: Suspect’s transgender boyfriend reportedly kicked out of home; experimented with drugs and alcohol in youth

Charlie Kirk assassination suspect Tyler Robinson’s transgender boyfriend was reportedly kicked out of the parents’ home during the latter years of high school over their Mormon faith. Lance Twiggs, 22, bounced between homes during his latter years of high school after clashing with his family over their beliefs in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, New York Post reported. Twiggs was expelled from his home after distancing himself from the family’s religious doctrines and reportedly experimenting with drugs and alcohol during his youth. He sought refuge with two friends, brothers from a large, blended family comprising six biological children and three adoptees, according to their sister, Braylon Nielsen, who spoke to The Post on Wednesday. While the brothers are now estranged from the family, the 19-year-old remembers Twiggs fondly, noting that they took him in during his junior year in 2021, despite the family’s limited knowledge of the troubled high schooler. “It was on and off. He was bouncing couches. He would live with us for a few months, but didn’t like taking up our couch. He would crash with friends,” she explained. “I loved Lance. His parents kicked him out of his house, and he lived with us. His parents never sat right with my family,” Nielsen added. She further commented that his parents appeared overbearing in their religious zeal and dismissed family members’ claims as spiteful gossip. “Lance, that I know of, has never done drugs. He was always like, ‘I don’t want to go out and party.’ He just wasn’t a big partier,” she said. Despite the tensions, Nielsen praised Twiggs as a “hardworking” and “straight A” student who ensured inclusivity during his time at UT Success Academy, an accelerated programme for gifted students pursuing college-level courses. “We went to a dance once, a high school dance, and he was very involved with it. Made sure everyone had rides. Made sure everyone had clothes. He just took care of people. My sister’s car broke down once, and he came out to help her,” she added. Ben Kaufman, Executive Director of UT Success Academy, did not have direct interactions with Twiggs, who graduated around the time Kaufman began working at the school. However, Kaufman stated, “Everything I’ve heard about him, he was a great kid. He was nice. He worked hard.” Despite being open about his issues, Nielsen revealed she was unaware that Twiggs was transgender. She defended Twiggs, asserting he had no involvement in Robinson’s plan. “I think that’s all Tyler. The Lance that I knew would never do something like that. I could never see Lance doing that,” she insisted. Nielsen’s mother, Jackie, also maintains that Twiggs is innocent in the assassination plot against Kirk, hoping he finds peace post-investigation. “I don’t believe Lance would have any part of that. He’s a good kid. He’s a kid. He’s compassionate. He minds his own business. I hope the world lightens up on him and stops being so hateful until they have all the facts. He doesn’t deserve this,” she told The Post. Twiggs recently left the townhouse he shared with Robinson, who was similarly raised as a devout Mormon, in St George, Utah. Washington County Sheriff Nate Brooksby previously stated that Twiggs was in a “safe space very far away from St George,” and needed “to lay low for a long time.” He has not been charged with any crime in connection with Kirk’s assassination and is reportedly cooperating with authorities.
