‘Entire country knows he steals votes’: Rahul Gandhi’s big charge on PM Modi; Bihar yatra reaches Bhagalpur

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday mounted a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led NDA government, accusing them of attempting ‘vote theft’ in Bihar and betraying the country’s youth with policies that ‘destroy employment opportunities.’ “The entire country now knows that Narendra Modi steals votes,” Gandhi alleged. Addressing a massive public rally in Bhagalpur during the ongoing ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, Gandhi alleged that the Modi government and the Election Commission were working together to snatch away citizens’ constitutional right to vote. “The SIR is an attempt by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP and the EC to steal your votes. They are trying their best to snatch your voting rights. The ‘vote chor’ came to Gayaji, but he did not say even a word on his government’s attempt to steal votes with the help of the EC,” Gandhi said. He alleged that though PM Modi visited Bihar earlier in the day, he remained silent on alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra and Karnataka elections as well as the crisis in Manipur. He attacked Modi for maintaining “silence” on irregularities in elections. “The SIR is an attempt by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP and the EC to steal your votes. They are trying their best to snatch your voting rights. The ‘vote chor’ came to Gayaji, but he did not say even a word on his government’s attempt to steal votes with the help of the EC,” the Congress leader said. Invoking the Constitution, Gandhi said all citizens are equal and every person has one vote, but alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Election Commission are attacking it by canceling votes. He cited the case of a voter who told him his vote was canceled by the EC after he had voted for Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. “Constitution guarantees equal rights to everyone; but PM and EC are snatching people’s right to vote,” he alleged. The leader of opposition also accused the Modi government of pushing the youth into despair. “Young people study for months to get a job, then take exams. But… on the day of the exam, the paper gets leaked. The situation is such that the youth cannot find employment in this state”. Lashing out at the Agniveer scheme, Gandhi said the government had ended secure jobs in the armed forces. “Earlier, millions of our youth used to join the army. They protected the country, received pensions, and were taken care of. Today, an Agniveer has lost his hand, but no help is being provided to him. He has been removed from his job and sent back home.” Gandhi also recalled demonetisation, GST and the now-repealed farm laws, alleging that every measure of this government is anti-poor. During the rally, Gandhi said that even attempts to suppress the yatra by cutting electricity would fail. “Here, they have cut off the electricity, thinking that cutting the power will silence the voice, but the voice does not stop in the darkness; it is heard.” he remarked. The Bhagalpur event marked the sixth day of the 1,300-km, 16-day yatra launched on August 17, which will pass through more than 20 districts of Bihar before concluding with a rally at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan on September 1. Congress leaders from Karnataka will also be joining the yatra. Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar will walk with Gandhi over the weekend in Katihar district, while chief minister Siddaramaiah will join on August 29. Rahul Gandhi

Patna/Bhagalpur: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ gathered momentum on Friday as it moved through Munger and Bhagalpur, drawing large crowds and sharp political reactions. The yatra, aimed at highlighting alleged irregularities in the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, entered its sixth day with colourful displays of alliance flags and enthusiastic supporters lining the streets. Rahul, accompanied by RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, CPI-ML general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, VIP chief Mukesh Sahani and Purnia MP Pappu Yadav, covered a 52-km stretch in Bhagalpur after a roadshow in Munger. The procession passed through minority and Yadav-dominated areas before entering Bhagalpur, where large gatherings greeted the cavalcade at Sultanganj, Akbarnagar, Nathnagar, Asanandpur and Ghanta Ghar Chowk. In Munger, the INDIA bloc leaders visited the historic Khanqah Rahmani mosque in Jamalpur, established in 1901 by Hazrat Maulana Mohammad Ali Mungri. Sitting on the ground, Rahul and his colleagues interacted with scholars. Many supporters of AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi were also present. According to some in the crowd, “the minority community is not being given due respect or representation within the INDIA bloc.” Speaking in Bhagalpur, Rahul launched a blistering attack on the NDA. Accusing the Centre and the Bihar govt of “vote chori” (stealing votes) through the SIR, he said, “The modalities adopted for SIR are aimed at depriving electorates of their right to vote. The governments at the Centre and in Bihar know they have lost public support, and this revision was undertaken out of fear of defeat.” Rahul alleged that past elections may also have been manipulated. “The present govts do not care about people’s issues because they win by manipulations and not by people’s support,” he said. Urging vigilance, he told the gathering, “If your names are deleted, protest. We will not allow the NDA to destroy the sanctity of free and fair elections. Stand up and support the INDIA alliance to protect voters’ rights.” Congress leader Syed Zeejah Hussain, who joined the march, said, “Going by the people’s enthusiasm and the support Rahul Gandhi is receiving, it appears Bihar is ready for change. It has also brought the Congress back to the mainstream of state politics.” Courtesy : TOI Note: This news is originally published on https:/timesofindia.com/bha and is used purely for non-profit/non-commercial purposes, especially human rights.
Akhilesh to join ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav will soon be a part of the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ underway in Bihar later this month. The former UP CM is in talks with senior functionaries of the Cong and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RLD) to finalise the schedule and itinerary of his participation. At present being led by leader of opposition (LoP) and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, the Yatra is scheduled to end on September 1. There were reports that the SP chief will join the Yatra in Sitamarhi (Bihar) on August 28. This will be the first time that Akhilesh will join Rahul Gandhi in a political agitation outside UP. Earlier, Akhilesh did become a part of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra when it entered UP In February 2024. “Our party chief has agreed to be a part of the Voter Adhikar Yatra. There are some tentative dates for it as well, but the final schedule is being discussed with top functionaries of the Congress as well as the RJD,” said a senior SP functionary in Lucknow. This is for the first time that a confirmation of Akhilesh joining the Yatra has come from SP. He said the SP chief’s participation in the Voter Adhikar Yatra will only add more firepower to the tirade as he himself has been at the receiving end of rampant anomalies in voters’ list. “We had filed 18,000 affidavits with the ECI in 2022 over mass anomalies in electoral rolls for assembly polls. Rahul Gandhi’s recent expose of rampant manipulation in the voter list of the Bengaluru Central constituency for 2024 Lok Sabha polls has established that the irregularities had a pan-India design. Participation of SP chief will send a message that the issue does not only concern Bihar where elections are due in a few months from now, but is linked to India as a whole,” the SP functionary said. If sources in SP are to be believed, top Congress functionaries are in touch with other India Bloc partners as well for their participation in the Voter Adhikar Yatra. “Participation of some more India Bloc in Yatra in the days to come, cannot be ruled out,” said the SP functionary. In political circles, Akhilesh’s participation in the Voter Adhikar Yatra is being seen as the beginning of a conscious effort to give the Yatra a pan-India shade. For the Cong in general and Rahul Gandhi in particular the coming together of India Bloc members under the Voter Adhikar Yatra banner will help the grand old party re-enforce its stature as the “big brother” of the opposition alliance. For the SP, it is sure to strengthen the bonhomie with the Congress which will help them to put up a united face to contest 2027 assembly polls as alliance partners in UP. The Voter Adhikar Yatra began at Saura Aerodrome Ground near Dehri in Sasaram (Bihar) and is scheduled to culminate into a grand rally at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna on September 1. ‘Spoiled brat’: Rijiju’s veiled attack at Rahul over ‘vote chori’ charge; shares CSDS apology

NEW DELHI: Union minister Kiren Rijiju reamed Rahul Gandhi out in a veiled dig over his “vote chori” charge, claiming the “credibility of the spoiled brat is hitting a new low!” Sharing a clip of CSDS psephologist Sanjay Kumar apologising for his Maharashtra data mishap, the Union parliamentary affairs minister said: At least, CSDS head has apologised! How can someone lie so publicly and do not tender apology? Credibility of the spoiled brat non-serious political leaders are hitting new low!” Sanjay Kumar, who is co-director at Lokniti-CSDS, apologised on Tuesday for his post on the Maharashtra elections, which claimed a significant dip in the number of voters in two assembly constituencies compared to the Lok Sabha election held just months earlier. — KirenRijiju (@KirenRijiju) However, CSDS’s data set off a political storm, with the opposition, particularly the Congress-led INDIA bloc, alleging that vote theft had occurred in the elections. Escalating his “vote chori” campaign against the BJP, Rahul Gandhi on Friday mounted a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led NDA government, accusing them of attempting ‘vote theft’ in Bihar and betraying the country’s youth with policies that ‘destroy employment opportunities.’ “The entire country now knows that Narendra Modi steals votes,” Gandhi alleged. ‘Results of last LS polls manipulated’: Rahul Gandhi in Bihar rally; doubles down on ‘vote chori’ charge against BJP, EC

NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi on Thursday in Bihar said that he was confident the 2024 Lok Sabha polls were manipulated. “Confident that results of last Lok Sabha polls were manipulated,” said Rahul Gandhi at a rally in Munger. The opposition leader doubled down on his ‘vote chori’ accusation against the ruling party, saying, “BJP trying to steal people’s votes to benefit a section of industrialists,” he said in the rally. The Congress chief further said that the party will not allow BJP to get away with alleged ‘vote chori’. “We will not allow BJP to indulge in ‘vote chori’ in collusion with Election Commission,” he said. Gandhi said that ‘vote chori’ is an “attack on the Constitution of India.” Earlier in the day, the Congress leader urged citizens to safeguard their voting rights and protect the country’s democracy. Posting on his X account, Gandhi said: “Dear Voters of India, I want to ask you all a straightforward question – can a government formed by stealing votes ever have the intention of serving the public? No, right! They don’t even need your votes, so they don’t care about your problems either.” — RahulGandhi (@RahulGandhi) Gandhi went on to list the Centre’s alleged governance failures in his post. – “Record-breaking unemployment is ruining the future of the youth. The government keeps filling the coffers of capitalists!” -“Scandals like NEET, SSC, and paper leaks have destroyed the careers of millions of students. The government has simply turned a blind eye!” – “Inflation is skyrocketing, making life unbearable for the common man. Yet, the government keeps increasing taxes!” – “Train accidents and the collapse of basic infrastructure like roads and bridges have led to the untimely deaths of hundreds of innocent people. But the government hasn’t even held anyone accountable.” – “From Poonch to Manipur, incidents of terror and violence have occurred – hundreds have died. The government hasn’t even taken responsibility!” – “Demonetisation, COVID, and the farmers’ protests claimed millions of lives. The Prime Minister didn’t offer help, let alone show any empathy!” Courtesy : TOI Note: This news is originally published on https:/timesofindia.com/bha and is used purely for non-profit/non-commercial purposes, especially human rights.
Opposition will benefit from Rahul’s walking

Rahul Gandhi has started ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar, which is his fifth major padyatra. Its objective is to raise the issue of removal of names from the voter list and to unite the marginalized communities. Rahul Gandhi’s Bihar Voter Rights Yatra Subodh Ghildiyal: Rahul Gandhi has built his political identity and image around padyatras from the very beginning. The ‘Vote Rights Yatra’ which started from Bihar on Sunday is his fifth major padyatra. 508 days ago, he had done Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and Manipur to Mumbai, which was successful. Under his current campaign in Bihar, he will walk both on foot and by vehicle. He will cover a distance of 1300 km through 20 districts. Just need an opportunity. Even in his early days in politics, Rahul had done padyatra against land acquisition in Bhatta-Parsaul of West UP. To promote the issues of farmers, he did a ‘Kisan Yatra’ from Deoria to Delhi. In 2015, he visited Kedarnath. Its purpose was to show that the situation has become normal after the disaster of 2013. All these examples show that wherever there is a slight possibility, Rahul Gandhi takes to the streets. Shadow of SIR. But the Bihar Yatra is not like any previous campaign. It is happening at a time when the Supreme Court, accepting the demands of the opposition, has directed the Election Commission to make public the information of those whose names have been removed from the new draft roll. Assembly elections are to be held in Bihar by the end of this year and a few months before that, when the process of Special Intensive Revision i.e. SIR suddenly started, many doubts started arising. Fear of the opposition. The meeting with the Election Commission deepened the fear of the opposition that the workers, poor and marginalized people who have migrated outside the state may be excluded from the voter list. This class is considered anti-BJP. There were massive protests against SIR and the matter reached the Supreme Court. All this happened during the monsoon session of Parliament, which also gave a big platform to the opposition. This is how the possibility arose. On August 7, Rahul claimed that there was a large-scale manipulation in the voter list of Mahadevpura assembly constituency of Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha seat during the 2024 general elections. This claim shocked the country and strengthened the doubts that the Congress has been expressing on the results of some seats of Maharashtra Assembly elections and 2024 Lok Sabha elections. When the Supreme Court gave instructions to the Election Commission, it was believed that Rahul’s hard work has paid off. This also led to the possibility that could there be another yatra, which carries protest and election together? New identity. After the SIR controversy, RJD, CPI-ML and other allies welcomed the idea of the yatra. This 16-day yatra will pass through 100 to 125 assembly constituencies. There will be an attempt to woo the extremely backward classes, SC, ST, Muslims and poor sections. Rahul has created a new identity by combining caste census, removal of reservation cap, exposing atrocities and secularism. This is on the lines of Mukesh Sahni’s VIP Party and Dipankar Bhattacharya’s CPI-ML. Example of UP. The purpose of Rahul Gandhi’s Bihar visit is to attract the Bahujan Samaj and to make a dent in the vote bank of Nitish Kumar’s JDU and Chirag Paswan’s LJP. Akhilesh Yadav had made a similar strategy in UP last year, in which he was successful. In response to BJP’s extremely backward class, Samajwadi Party created its identity as PDA i.e. a party of backward, Dalit and tribal classes. Rahul Gandhi’s agenda of social justice worked in conjunction with Akhilesh and SP got a spectacular victory in the last Lok Sabha elections. SP’s victory. From 2004 till now, there is a lot of evidence that shows that in the states where Congress is marginalized, Rahul Gandhi’s presence benefits his allies or ideological rivals more. Rahul’s important role in the victory of the Mahagathbandhan in UP in 2024 is internally accepted. There is even talk that the campaign he launched against the corruption prevalent in UP in 2007 made BSP a villain and this became the basis for the victory of SP in 2012. The Rahul factor also worked during the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra last year. At the same time, despite Congress being a marginal party in Tamil Nadu, DMK gives importance to Rahul’s credibility. The journey will happen again. In Sasaram, Tejashwi Yadav was driving the jeep and Rahul was sitting on the seat next to him. This picture indicates that Tejashwi is in the lead role in his state. RJD has the organization, while Congress brings national leadership and ideology, whose face is Rahul. Bihar elections are still a few months away. In such a situation, this trip cannot be the last. It is expected that Rahul will hit the road again when the elections come closer. Edited by: Sanjeev Kumar Courtesy: Hindi News
Rahul accuses BJP of stealing votes, says Bihar will fight back

Patna: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the BJP of “stealing votes” with the support of the Election Commission and claimed the alleged practice was aimed at shaping the future of industrialists. He said Bihar would not allow it to happen again. “Do you know why the vote theft is being done across the country? They want to rob your future and shape the future of big industrialists,” Rahul told a gathering in Munger on the fifth day of his “Voter Adhikar Yatra”. Rahul returned to Bihar after a day’s break and joined the yatra in Lakhisarai. Earlier in the day, RJD leader and leader of opposition in the state assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, had resumed the march in Sheikhpura in his absence. Apprehending that even the last elections might have been manipulated, Rahul alleged, “BJP and the Election Commission are stealing votes in every state. Perhaps they even did it in the last election, but this time we have found out.” Standing atop an open jeep alongside INDIA bloc leaders, Rahul waved to crowds lining the roads. Groups of enthusiastic youths rushed forward to greet him and he shook hands with many, stopping frequently to interact with people. Earlier in the day, he wrote on social media that a govt formed by stealing votes had no interest in serving the public. “Since they don’t even need your votes, they don’t care about your problems either,” he said. Citing demonetisation, the Covid crisis and the farmers’ movement, he alleged that despite hundreds of lives being lost, PM Narendra Modi neither offered help nor expressed empathy. “Do you know why? Because this government wasn’t chosen by you; it was formed by stealing votes. Whether you live, die, or suffer – it makes no difference to them because they are confident they will return to power through theft.” Calling a clean voter list the foundation of free and fair elections, Rahul appealed to the masses not to let their rights slip away. He alleged record unemployment was destroying the future of youth while scams such as NEET, SSC and repeated paper leaks had crushed the dreams of lakhs of students. “But the govt has simply turned a blind eye,” he said. Rahul also attacked the NDA govt over incidents of violence and terror. “From Pahalgam to Manipur, hundreds of lives have been lost, but the govt has not taken responsibility,” he alleged. He added that train accidents and the collapse of roads and bridges had caused untimely deaths, yet accountability was missing. The yatra, launched from Sasaram on Aug 17, is scheduled to conclude with a rally in Patna on Sept 1. After ‘vote chori’, it’s ‘satta chori’, claims opposition, says bill aimed at keeping Naidu, Nitish in check

NEW DELHI: Even as it anchored the protest against the bill on unseating jailed ministers and CMs in the constitutional provisions, Congress claimed BJP brass was conjuring up the provision to keep a check on its two allies – CMs Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar – a political spin that struck a chord with the rest of the opposition as the issue flared up Wednesday. Rahul Gandhi said the bill takes the country back to “medieval times” when a king could just remove anybody at will, just for not liking somebody’s face. In the thick of opposition protest on “vote chori”, Modi govt’s move on a constitutional amendment to provide for automatic dismissal of any minister who has been jailed for 30 days, initially surprised anti-BJP camp. But INDIA bloc soon concluded it was a BJP bid to “distract” people from “vote chori” that has triggered a national campaign under a united rival camp. Congress MP K C Venugopal said, “When allies like Naidu and Nitish need to be threatened… the home minister brings this dangerous bill that strikes at the heart of the constitutional principles.” The spin is not only in step with opposition’s jibes post-2024 that Modi 3.0 is governing on crutches, but adds an intrigue to it. INDIA has been relishing the fact that TDP chose to write to EC on SIR in line with opposition’s concerns and in defiance of BJP. It also inserts a mischief ahead of Bihar polls where BJP is aligned with JD(U). But the generic attack line, that further cements the unity among regional parties, is that BJP is looking to destabilise opposition states. Congress MP Manickam Tagore sarcastically said, “Amid ‘vote chori’, this is law for ‘satta chori’.” RSP MP N K Premachandran said it is Article 356, by which the Centre can dismiss a state govt, by another name. “It is, in fact, an easier 356. Under the proposed law, you don’t need a governor’s report or evidence. Just file a case and arrest a CM for a month, and the govt is vulnerable.” Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee said, “When EC could not be twisted to their tune, they unleashed ED, with an ulterior motive to jail opposition leaders, topple elected govts, and steal people’s mandate. This is a super emergency.” Courtesy : TOI Note: This news is originally published on https:/timesofindia.com/bha and is used purely for non-profit/non-commercial purposes, especially human rights.
Where is Dhankhar, asks Rahul, at VP nominee felicitation

NEW DELHI: Urging fellow MPs to remember the reason behind the premature vice-presidential election, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi Wednesday asked, “where has the old VP gone”, echoing queries about Jagdeep Dhankhar’s whereabouts in the wake of his absence from public view since his shock resignation exactly a month ago. He even joked that search for Dhankhar has become like “those Agatha Christie books”. At a gathering of opposition MPs to felicitate their VP candidate B Sudershan Reddy, Rahul said there was a story behind why Dhankhar stepped down and there is a story behind “why he is in hiding”. He said, “Why is the (former) VP of India in a situation where he cannot say a word, one word, and has to hide… everybody knows it…. Suddenly, the person who used to burst forth in Rajya Sabha has gone silent, completely silent. So, these are the times we are living in”. Kharge framed the contest between Reddy and BJP nominee CP Radhakrishnan as “Constitution vs RSS”. He said, “It is an ideological battle for the soul of our nation. While the ruling party has chosen the ideology of RSS, we uphold the Constitution as our guiding light.” In an allusion to complaints the opposition had with Dhankhar as the Rajya Sabha chairman, Kharge said Reddy’s nomination is a promise of restoring fairness to the functioning of the Upper House. Underlining that he keeps abreast of the parliamentary proceedings, VP nominee Reddy said, “I just remembered one quote of Lohia, ‘Jab Sadak Khamosh Hain, Sadan Aawara Banti Hain’. (When streets are silent, the parliament becomes wayward)”. He added that Rahul does not allow the streets to stay silent. In an allusion to complaints the opposition had with Dhankhar as the RS chairman, Kharge said Reddy’s nomination is a promise of restoring fairness to the functioning of the upper house and ending the transgressions against the Constitution. He said the Parliament is witnessing a growing trend of stifling opposition voices and advancing the BJP’s ideology. Claiming that there is a war between those who are attacking the Constitution and those who are defending it, Rahul said, “I happened to look inside his (Reddy’s) pocket, and to my surprise, he had a copy of the Constitution of India. He carries it everywhere. He mentioned that he has been carrying the copy for 52 years.” In the thick of the row triggered by Modi govt’s bill on unseating ministers and chief ministers jailed for 30 days, Kharge said it will be used to destabilise the state govts, especially after a “blatant misuse of parliamentary majority over 11 years to arm the autonomous agencies with draconian powers to target opposition leaders”. Congress leader KC Venugopal said the opposition will hold a mock poll on September 8 to familiarise the MPs with the voting in the VP election.
