Panvel Nursing College Principal Booked For Abetment To Suicide, Caste Harassment Of Dalit Student

The deceased, Uday Motilal Aghale, a first-year B.Sc. Nursing student at a Nursing College in Poyanje, Panvel, allegedly took his own life on June 3 due to prolonged harassment by the college principal. Panvel Taluka Police have booked the principal of a nursing college hostel for abetment to suicide and caste-based harassment after a 19-year-old student was found dead in his hostel room. The deceased, Uday Motilal Aghale, a first-year B.Sc. Nursing student at a Nursing College in Poyanje, Panvel, allegedly took his own life on June 3 due to prolonged harassment by the college principal. A case has been registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and for abetment to suicide, based on a complaint filed by his mother. Aghale, a native of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), had secured admission at the college in December 2024 after scoring below the required CET cutoff. The college had approached him with the offer of admission and assured him of free hostel, mess, and uniforms due to his reserved category status. However, according to the complaint registered, none of these promises were fulfilled, and Aghale was allegedly pressured to pay Rs 5 lakh. When he questioned the demand, the lady principal reportedly began targeting him with caste-based insults and public humiliation. Aghale frequently told his parents about the mental distress he was facing and had expressed his desire to leave the institution. Despite this, his parents encouraged him to focus on his studies. On the night of June 3, Aghale made a final phone call to his mother around 1:30 a.m., asking about his family’s well-being before saying he could no longer tolerate the harassment. He ended the call and was later found hanging in his hostel room by a friend, Narsingh Giri, who was alerted by Aghale mother when she couldn’t reach him. Aghale was rushed to a hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. “As per the allegations, we have filed the case against the Principal and the further investigations are on,” said a police officer from Panvel Taluka police station. Is Caste Hatred a New Govt Policy in Maharashtra? AIISCA Blasts Govt, Demands Justice for Beed Dalit Youth

AIISCA condemned the attack and emphasized that it was not merely an act of individual violence-it was an organized message of caste terror, meant to humiliate, dehumanize, and punish a Dalit family for showing moral courage and human dignity in a village dominated by silence, fear and caste arrogance. Beed- The All India Independent Scheduled Castes Association (AIISCA) has issued a strongly-worded condemnation of the brutal mob attack on a Dalit youth, and his family in Shirapur Gat in Beed district of Maharashtra. The incident, which took place on a week ago, has been described as a premeditated act of caste terror aimed at crushing the dignity and humanity of a Dalit family. AIISCA has accused the Maharashtra government and law enforcement of deliberate inaction, pointing to the delayed police response, the hospital’s refusal to provide timely medical and legal assistance, and the failure to file a medico-legal case until external pressure was applied. What happened on June 4 The horrifying incident of caste violence took place in Shirapur Gat village when a Dalit youth Vaibhav Khandgale (32) and his family were attacked by upper caste people. This attack on Vaibhav was done only because he had helped a Dalit teenager. Vaibhav returned home from his office at around 6 pm on June 4. He saw that a Dalit teenager of the village was unwell and no one was helping him. Vaibhav immediately took him to the hospital. At 7:30 pm, when he returned home and was sitting outside, 10-12 upper caste (Maratha) people suddenly attacked him in a car. Some of Vaibhav’s old classmates were also among them. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers hurled caste-slurs, saying, “Khoop jaast paishacha maaj ahe ka tula? Maharache lokam lay majalet…” (“Are you crazy about money? These Mahar (Dalit) people have become very arrogant…”). They thrashed Vaibhav with an iron rod, looted his wallet (₹8,000) and also stole his mother’s gold jewellery from inside the house. The mob dragged them out on the street and beat them relentlessly while more than 200 villagers watched, not intervening. When Vaibhav’s parents returned, his mother tried to save him, but she too was hurled caste-slurs and sustained minor injuries. Meanwhile, the mother of the Dalit youth whom Vaibhav had taken to the hospital was also attacked. The entire Dalit community was abused and threatened with social boycott. AIISCA alleges that the police deliberately avoided invoking critical sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) while filing false counter-cases against the victims, a tactic it claims is influenced by caste bias within the administration. The victims and their families remain unprotected, while the accused roam free, shielded by caste privilege and political connections. The association has raised urgent questions about the state of democracy and constitutional values in Maharashtra, asking whether the government’s silence and inaction signify an endorsement of caste supremacy. AIISCA has demanded the immediate arrest of all accused under relevant sections of the BNS and SC/ST Act, disciplinary action against negligent police and medical officials, the quashing of fabricated counter-cases, witness protection, and a special court-monitored trial overseen by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC). It has also called for an independent probe into administrative complicity in caste-based impunity. Dalit woman judge sought leave, Jharkhand High Court made ‘adverse remarks’ in ACR — Supreme Court issued notice!

Allegation of adverse remarks being recorded after filing a petition in the Supreme Court against denial of child care leave. New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Jharkhand High Court. This notice has been issued on the latest application filed by a Dalit woman judge, in which she has alleged that adverse remarks were made in her Annual Confidential Report (ACR) after filing a petition in the apex court against not getting childcare leave. A bench of Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Manmohan recorded the argument of senior advocate A.K. Sinha, who appeared on behalf of the Jharkhand High Court. He told the court that as per the suggestion given by the Supreme Court on June 6, the High Court has now decided to grant 92 days of childcare leave to the woman judge. However, the counsel appearing for the judge raised serious concerns before the bench and said that the adverse remarks were made in the ACR only after the petition was filed on May 23. The judge’s counsel said, “One more thing is very disturbing. Some remarks have been made in my ACR now, which have been made after the filing of this petition. I am an officer from the Scheduled Caste category and I have disposed of a large number of cases.” He also said that the judge concerned is “one of the best performing officers.” The counsel questioned the timing of the ACR remarks and said, “Please look at the timing…” To this, the Supreme Court directed the Jharkhand High Court administration to file a reply to the allegations levelled by the judge that adverse remarks were made in his ACR after the petition was filed. In the post, Jagan also questioned the TDP-led government’s attitude and action towards women, calling it “disgraceful” and “preposterous”. “Is this the safety they promised?
