Youth gets life imprisonment for murder
AURANGABAD: Nanded principal district judge Deepak Dholakiya on Wednesday sentenced a 22-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering a worker in February 2016 over old enmity.
“The convict, Alikhan Mukhtarkhan, has also been slapped with a fine of Rs 10,000,” Sanjay Lathkar, additional public prosecutor, said on Thursday.
Lathkar said that on February 20, 2016, Alikhan had an altercation with Gajanan Haribhau Gade (21) over some trivial issue. Later in the day, Gade stepped out of his house for some personal work and was passing through the residence of a former deputy mayor in Burud Galli when Alikhan stopped him.
They again started arguing over the same issue and Alikhan subsequently attacked Gade with a sharp weapon, killing him on the spot.
Itwara police had registered a case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code along with provisions of the Prevention of Atrocities Against SC ST Act, as the deceased belonged to an SC community.
“Alikhan was arrested on the same day and deputy superintendent of police Ashok Bankar investigated the matter and filed a chargesheet before the court. The prosecution examined a total of 12 witnesses,” said Lathkar.
On the basis of the evidence presented before the court, judge Dholakiya held Alikhan guilty and awarded him life imprisonment.
