Uttar Pradesh: Mumbai doctor to sponsor dalit student’s education
LUCKNOW: A Mumbai doctor has come forward to sponsor entire study of dalit student Sanskriti Ranjan, who could not deposit Rs 15,000 for allotment of seat in IIT, BHU, after cracking it through JEE Advanced. “The student was granted admission by the IIT, BHU following intervention by Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh of the Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court, who had volunteered to contribute the amount from his pocket,” said the student’s lawyer Sarvesh Dubey.
Now, as the report was published in different sections of the media, several IIT alumni and advocates have come forward to help the poor student, said the student’s lawyer Sarvesh Dubey.
Dr Sonal Chauhan, who is currently working as consultant MD, DMRE, MBBS at Wadia Children Hospital, Mumbai, moved the court filing an intervention application that she wanted to sponsor the student’s entire study.
Appreciating the capable sections of society especially Dr Chauhan that have come forward to help the student, the bench has also asked the Central and state governments as to whether it has any scheme for the poor and deprived students who secure seat in prestigious examination like JEE, NEET, CLAT but are not able to pay their fees.
Meanwhile, the IIT, BHU counsel sought time from the court to come forward with details of expenses of the student to complete her studies, including hostel expenses.
Sanskriti Ranjan, the dalit student, is a meritorious student throughout and she cracked JEE Advanced with 1469 as rank but could not deposit Rs 15,000 for securing seat in IIT, BHU due to poverty and ailment of her father.
Hearing her half-cooked petition, a bench of justice Dinesh Kumar Singh had on November 29 directed IIT BHU and the Joint Seat Allocation Authority to grant her admission after creating a supernumerary seat.
Not only this, the judge had paid her Rs 15,000 instantly and also readied lawyers to volunteer her fight the legal case.
