Three Dehradun-based institutes booked under scholarship scam
Dehradun: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the multi-crore SC/ST scholarship scam, filed fresh cases against three Dehradun based educational institutions in connection with the case on Tuesday.
The three educational institutions allegedly siphoned off scholarship money to the tune of over Rs 8.89crore from social welfare department by submitting fake list of students belong to SC/ST community, who were never enrolled with the institutes.
According to SIT officials, the cases were filed against Sunrise Institute of Management & Sciences, Himalayan Institute of Pharmacy & Research and S B College of Education, all situated in different parts of Dehradun district.
“During preliminary investigation, it was found out that the three institutions showed fake list of enrolled students to get scholarship money illegally from social welfare office in Haridwar,” said Manjunath TC, SIT chief, adding that further probe in the matter is underway.
The institutions have been booked under sections 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant), 467 (forging a document), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using a forged document or electronic record as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
This comes two weeks after nine colleges in Haridwar were booked in connection with the scholarship scam. According to SIT, these colleges swindled Rs 8 crore by submitting fake documents of students.
Among the Haridwar colleges that were booked on November 18 include Himalayn Doon Academy, Om Bio Science and Technology Roorkee, Greenway Institute of Management Studies, Subharti Private ITI, and Himalyan Group of Professional Institutions Smiore.
The SIT has so far arrested 18 persons in connection with scam, including Geetaram Nautiyal, joint director of social welfare department.
