Its extension area was from Central India, Agra United Provinces to the whole of Rajasthan. In these 95 years, a dozen universities have come out of this university. Presently confined in four districts of Agra division, this university with 649 colleges is making every effort to keep the torch of education burning. University History
Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University (erstwhile Agra University) was established on July 1, 1927 with the efforts of Reverend Canon AW Davis, Munshi Narayan Prasad Asthana, Dr. LP Mathur, Lala Dewanchand, Rai Bahadur Anand Swarup etc.
This university was established due to the difficulties faced by universities like Kolkata and Prayagraj in conducting examinations. At that time only 14 colleges were affiliated to this university. Started with 34 students, this university had four faculties, Arts, Science, Commerce and Law. The Faculties of Medicine opened in 1936, Agriculture in 1938, Home Science in 1968.
Till now there have been 48 vice-chancellors in this university.
The residential institutions included Kanhaiya Lal Maniklal Munshi Vidyapeeth in Hindi and Linguistics in the year 1953, Institute of Social Science in the year 1957 and Institute of Home Science in the year 1968 and Basic Science Institute and Department of Library and Information Science in the year 1984.
The Department of History and Culture was started in the year 1985, Seth Padam Chand Jain Institute of Commerce and Management in the year 1993, Dau Dayal Vocational Institute in the year 1994 and Institute of Engineering and Technology in the year 1998. The School of Life Sciences opened in the year 1998, the Institute of Fine Arts in the year 2000 and the Institute of Tourism Management in the year 2004. Till now this university has had 48 vice-chancellors.

Presently, the university, spread over four residential campuses, has 15 institutions and 649 affiliated colleges. 408 colleges have also been affiliated to Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University, established this year at Aligarh.
