State seeks lawyers for SC/ST cases in spl courts
Margao: The South Goa district magistrate and collector has invited applications from eminent advocates for empanelment in
the South Goa district panel to conduct cases in special courts. Applications should reach the collector’s office within two weeks.
As per a press note, the empanelment will be done in two categories. Category ‘A’ will comprise advocates with experience of 10 years and above. Fees per hearing would be Rs 5,000, provided the maximum amount per case does not exceed Rs 1 lakh.
Category ‘B’ will consist of lawyers having 7-10 years of experience, preferably in criminal matters. Fees per hearing in this category would be Rs 3,000, provided the maximum amount per case does not exceed Rs 75,000.
Experts in the legal field having experience in dealing with criminal matters, and preferably having a successful track record in matters related to the atrocities against SCs and STs will be considered eligible. They should also be conversant with the social and cultural background of SC/ST communities in Goa, and should have a good standing and reputation in society.
The committee constituted for empanelment of eminent senior advocates under the Schedule Castes and Schedule Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, during its last meeting, had decided to prepare such a panel as it was deemed necessary
for conducting cases in special courts, the press note added.
