Scholarship a distant dream for SC students
Once again, Scheduled Caste (SC) students were feeling cheated as the government has failed to transfer their post-matric scholarship. As a result, the SC students have not been able to pay their fee.
“I am in final year, I cannot think of quitting the course. My father is a daily wager and has to look after three kids. An NGO has promised to arrange 50 pe cent fee while I am arranging the remaining part on my own by teaching school students. False promises of politicians have literally ruined our careers,” said, Sharuti, a BA final year student.
“Though we are not asking the SC students to pay but we have our own financial constraints,” said a college Principal.
“The Central Government has directed the state government to ensure that no eligible SC candidate is denied admission and date for depositing fee may be extended till the scholarship amount is transferred,” he said.
Jaswinder Singh Gill, Deputy Director, Department of Social Welfare said, “We have evenly distributed the amount for the 2015-16 session to schools, DPI, technical colleges and medical institutions. Similarly, amount of the session 2016-17 shall be released in the month of April. We can make payment during model code of conduct.”
