Road rage claims youth’s life in Barh
PATNA: A youth was killed after he was hit by an SUV and subsequently assaulted by four persons travelling in the car near Athmalgola in Patna rural late on Friday, triggering protests by the relatives of the deceased and local residents on Saturday.
Golu Kumar alias Golu Ram, who belonged to the Scheduled Caste, was watching a religious cultural show at Hasanchak village under Athmalgola police station around 10.30pm on Friday when the speeding SUV hit him. The 18- year-old suffered minor injuries in the accident.
As he protested against the rash driving, the occupants of the car got down and assaulted him. The youth succumbed to injuries on way to the Barh Referral Hospital, police said.
Agitated over the death, some local residents chased the car on motorbikes and managed to intercept it near Barh. However, the occupants in the car fled, leaving the vehicle on the spot. Later a police team took the SUV into its custody.
On Saturday, Golu’s family members and residents of his native Govindchak village blocked the NH-30 and disrupted traffic. The blockade was lifted on the busy road following the intervention of senior police officers. Barh police station SHO, Sujeet Kumar, said that the assault on youth’s vital parts proved fatal for him.
“Efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the four persons travelling in the car. Preliminary investigation suggested that the accused were residents of nearby Achchuara village,” he told
The SHO said the vehicle had already been seized and raids were on to nab the culprits. An FIR under Section 302 (murder) has been lodged on the statement of the deceased’ kin. The body was handed over to the family after post mortem on Saturday.
