Rape case against priest, three others
Two minor Dalit girls of Moga city were sexually abused by a priest of a gurdwara with the help of his associates at Jagraon in Ludhiana district. The victims are currently undergoing medical treatment.
The police have registered a case under Sections 376 and 511 of the IPC, Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and Section 3 of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, against the accused, identified as Manjit Singh, aresident of Nehian Wala village, Bhana Singh and Ashok Kumar, both residents of Moga city.
Police officials said they had arrested Manjit Singh and rescued the girls from his clutches but his associates were yet to be arrested till the filing of this report.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they all were working as ‘sewadars’ at a religious dera at Nanaksar in Ludhiana district.
In another incident, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth at Bughipura village in Moga city, police officials said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that accused Sandeep Singh, alias Guggu, a resident of Bughipura village, lured the girl into his house where he raped her.
Residents caught Sandeep and handed him to the police. A case was registered.
