Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday raised questions on the electoral process, citing recent assembly elections including Maharashtra and Haryana. He raised questions about transparency in the process and claimed that there is a serious problem in the country’s election system. The former Congress president also claimed after the inauguration of the party’s new headquarters that the commission is refusing to provide the voter list with the names and addresses of those who voted in the Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections, while it is its duty to be transparent.2 of 5
Rahul Gandhi said, ‘Do not think that we are fighting a fair battle. If you believe that we are fighting only against a political organization called BJP and the RSS, then it is not so. They have captured almost every institution of our country.’ He said that now the people of Congress are not only fighting against the BJP and RSS, but also the system.3 of 5
‘Something went wrong in Maharashtra elections’
He claimed that I have clearly said that something went wrong in the Maharashtra elections. We are not happy with the way the Election Commission is working. The sudden emergence of about one crore new voters in Maharashtra between the Lok Sabha and assembly elections is a matter of concern. Rahul Gandhi said that it is the duty of the Election Commission to provide the voter list with the names and addresses of those who voted in the Maharashtra and Haryana assembly elections, but it has refused to give this information.5

He questioned why the Election Commission would refuse to make the voter list transparent? What purpose is served by not giving us the list and why are they holding it back?
