Post-mortem report of Dalit youth beaten up by upper castes says cause of death ‘uncertain’
Dehradun: The post-mortem report of the Dalit youth who was allegedly thrashed by upper caste men at a wedding in Tehri district on Sunday, was released on Tuesday. However, the report had nothing conclusive to say about the cause of death of the youth. Police now is waiting for the viscera report for further details.
Talking to TOI, DG (law & order), Ashok Kumar said that the cause of the death of Jitendra Das (23) couldn’t be ascertained in the autopsy report of the deceased.
“If he would had succumbed due to injuries, that would have been clearly visible in the post-mortem report. We are now waiting for the viscera report,” he added. Meanwhile, the family of Jitendra Das alleged that the government was trying to cover up the matter.
“There were dark black bruises on the thigh and even on the private parts of my brother. His face was totally red with blood clots at the time we took him to a health centre. How did he die if it were not due to the thrashing that he got? This is a mockery of our pain, said Pooja Das, the victim’s sister. Tarun Vijay, former Rajya Sbaha MP also expressed dissatisfaction with the autopsy report and alleged that police was not acting properly in the case.
“Police cannot deny the fact that he was thrashed, that he was humiliated, and that the upper caste men had used caste slurs against him. They didn’t even arrest one man till nine days after the incident even when the FIR was filed under SC/ST Act. Now they have come up with another idea of hiding the cause of death. NHRC investigations will reveal the truth.”
