Police launch probe into mysterious death of Dalit man
Pithoragarh: The Champawat district police has launched a probe into the mysterious death of a 40-year-old Dalit man, identified as Ramesh Ram. The death took place at Haldwani’s Dr Susheela Tiwari Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday, less than a day after Ram went to the Sunkot village of Nainital district to attend a wedding.
According to the initial probe, Ram, a resident of Champawat’s Pati Block, had left the wedding in an inebriated state with some of his friends, who have told police that they dropped him off at his tailor shop.
In the morning, Ram was found with injury marks on his head and other parts of the body. Villagers rushed him to the community health centre at Lohaghat. He was later referred to Dr Susheela Tiwari Medical College and Hospital, where he breathed his last.
Devendra Singh Pincha, SP Champawat, “The exact of his death will be ascertained only after the postmortem report comes in. At this point, we are not sure if the injuries on his body were self-inflicted, a result of an accident, or if he was thrashed by somebody. We are probing the case from all angles.”
