Over 2.40 lakh U’khand students yet to receive scholarships
Dehradun: Over 2.4 lakh Uttarakhand students are yet to receive pre-matric and post-matric scholarships this year.
The state social welfare department provides monetary assistance to SC, ST and OBC students who are residents of the state and study in one of its institutions. However, authorities said the release of scholarships had been postponed from May to JulyAugust due to the Lok Sabha elections.
Students who are dependent on the scholarships meanwhile fear they will lose a year because of the delay. “I need to apply for post-graduation and have to submit the fees by early July. If I fail to arrange the money, I will lose a year,” said Vijay Singh Rawat, a BSc student in Dehradun.
The students had applied for the scholarship in October last year. As per government records, over 1.70 lakh pre-matric students and 70,000 post-matric students are waiting for their scholarships for the academic year 2018-19.
