No spate in harassment meted out to SC/STs, SC told
Centre files affidavit in response to a challenge to SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Amendment Act
There is no spate in the brutality, indignities and harassment meted out to SC/ST communities, the government has told the Supreme Court. This argument is the core of the government affidavit filed in the apex court recently in response to a challenge to the enactment of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act, 2018. The amendments had restored the legislative intent of the original Act of 1989, which barred anticipatory bail to a person accused of insulting or hurting a Dalit.
