Muslim woman harassed by two men in Rajasthan’s Alwar for not chanting ‘Ram Ram’; miscreants arrested
Alwar: In a shameful incident, a Muslim woman was allegedly harassed by two men in Rajasthan’s Alwar after she refused to chant ‘Ram Ram’.
The incident took place at a bus stand in Alwar on late Saturday night when the woman was going to her parents’ home in Haryana’s Nuh along with her husband and child.
The two men were in an inebriated state when the incident took place, according to police. They also allegedly misbehaved with the woman and thrashed her husband. When some nearby people saw the miscreants harassing the couple, they came to their rescue and handed over the two youth to police after beating them up.
The two youth identified as Vansh Bharadwaj and Surendra Bhatia were arrested by the Alwar police after the woman lodged a complaint against them.
In the recent past, several people have been thrashed and even killed in different parts of the country for not chanting slogans like ‘Ram Ram’ or ‘Jai Shri Ram’ .

The recent incident that sparked widespread outrage was the Tabrez Ansari lynching that took place in June in Jharkhand. The 22-year-old Muslim man was brutally thrashed by a mob on suspicion of stealing a bike. He was tied to an electricity pole for over seven hours and forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Hanuman” while the perpetrators continued to whip him with sticks.
The incident had triggered nationwide outrage, with Opposition accusing the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government of misusing the slogan to spread hatred among Muslims.
A similar incident was also reported in Aurangabad, where two Muslim men were forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ by miscreants in Maharashtra’s district.
In July this year, nearly 50 eminent personalities from the film fraternity had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concern over increasing incidents of mob lynching. In the letter, the celebrities said that ‘Jai Shri Ram’ had reduced to a provocative war cry.
“Regrettably “Jai Shri Ram” has become a provocative “war cry” today that leads to law and order problems, and many lynchings take place in its name. It is shocking that so much violence should be perpetrated in the name of religion!… The name of Ram is sacred to many in the majority community of India,” the letter reads.
Last week, an FIR was registered against the celebrities for allegedly “tarnished the image of the country and undermined the impressive performance of the prime minister” apart from “supporting secessionist tendencies”.
