MP: Ambedkar idol vandalised in Pichhore town
BHOPAL: A miscreant damaged a statue of BR Ambedkar in Pichhore town of Shivpuri district in MP late Tuesday night, sparking tension in the region.
The vandalism was caught on CCTV. Police have registered an FIR and announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for information leading to arrest of the accused.
The right arm and some other portions of the statue, installed near a bus stand, have been damaged. A group of protesters gathered there on Wednesday to protest.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) condemned the incident and has announced a protest demonstration on August
- They submitted a memorandum to police, expressing concern that such incidents are “rising in the region”. Pichhore is about 100km from the village where two Dalit children were beaten to death in September last year for defecating in the open. Former CM Kamal Nath demanded immediate action against the vandals and restoration of the statue to its earlier form. “I condemn this. It’s an attempt to spoil the atmosphere in the area. Incidents of harassment of Dalits and ST community have gone up ever since Shivraj government returned to power,” he tweeted.
