Missing Dalit girl’s case haunts Bawal MLA
Bawal (Rewari), Amid various political promises and dreams, it’s the case of an 11-year-old missing girl that is haunting outgoing MLA and BJP candidate Banwari Lal’s campaign in Bawal.
The parents and villagers of Mohanpur area are organising anti-Lal campaign, urging people to boycott him for allegedly being indifferent to their pleas for justice.
They alleged that Lal had been ignoring their plight ever since the girl went missing in June 2018. The family has now called for a Dalit panchayat tomorrow to garner support from neighbouring villages and Lal’s rivals.
“He had visited our village to seek votes but we chased him away as he never heard pleas of Dalits like us. Nobody was interested in finding our daughter. We sat outside his residence for 15 days to meet him, but he used to sneak out from the back door. She was the daughter of the entire community and we want everyone to support us,” said the girl’s grandfather Subedar Rampat, who was also former president of Bheem Rao Ambedkar Samiti, Bawal.
The MLA neither answered several calls made to him nor replied to any of the messages.
Sources claim that besides the candidates from Congress and other parties, many local BJP workers and leaders have agreed to attend the Dalit panchayat tomorrow.
