Man sentenced to life for raping Dalit woman
Bareilly: A man has been sentenced to life for raping a 35-year-old Dalit woman when she was alone in her house. The crime took place in Alapur area of Badaun on December 7, 2013. The woman’s husband had travelled to Bareilly’s Faridpur for work when the crime occurred.
The rape survivor had stated in her FIR, “I was ironing clothes in my house on December 7, 2013, when Kadir Ahmed who lives in the neighbourhood entered the house. He stuffed pieces of cloth in my mouth and raped me despite my resistance. I somehow managed to raise an alarm and after hearing my cries for help, two men from the neighbourhood arrived. On seeing them, Ahmed threatened to kill me if I took any action. He also managed to flee.”
The woman alleged that once her husband returned home, the couple went to Alapur police station but the cops refused to register an FIR. In fact, an FIR was lodged against the accused only after the rape survivor moved local court.
According to additional district government counsel Raees Ahmad, the court of special judge, SC/ST Act, sentenced Kadir Ahmed to rigorous life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 under IPC section 376 (rape) and SC/ST Act.
