Man accuses business partner of beating, casteist slur
AHMEDABAD: A 29-year-old man, who works as clerk in a city-based arts college, filed a complaint with Navrangpura police stating that his business partner had abused him with casteist slurs and said “only Patels can do business, not Dalits.” He has also alleged that he was beaten and abducted by his business partner who later thrashed him in public near Gujarat University.
According to the complainant — Sanjay Parmar, resident of Chandkheda, he had been trading in machinery with his partner Binay Ramesh Patel, a resident of Thaltej, for last three years. The duo has also started trading in shares. For last six months, they were not in talking terms after suffering losses.
According to the FIR lodged with Navrangpura police, Patel had gone to Parmar’s college on Ashram Road on Wednesday and asked how they could compensate the business loss. When Parmar said that he did not have money, Patel allegedly became furious and said, “I being Patel can face loss in business but you being Dalit cannot face such loss. Only Patels can do business not Dalits,” the complainant stated in the FIR.
Parmar also alleged that Patel had restrained him against his will and beat him. The complainant then called up police control room and filed his complaint. Navrangpura police booked Patel under charges of kidnapping, causing hurt, for uttering obscene words and criminal intimidation.
