Landless Dalit labourers hold protest
On a call by the district committee of the Dihati Mazdoor Sabha, a large number of landless Dalit labourers staged a protest outside the SDM office here on Wednesday. Later, they took out a protest march to the office of the ADC (Development). The protest was headed by committee’s district president Mithu Singh Ghudda.
They also submitted a memorandum, addressing the state government, to district administration officials. In the memorandum, they demanded 10 marla for each landless family of the Dalits and Rs3 lakh per family for the construction of houses.
Besides, they demanded Rs600 per day work allowance throughout the year under the MNREGA, unemployment allowance if they don’t get work and old age/widow/handicap pension of Rs 3,000 per month under social security for landless labourers.
While addressing the protesters gathered at the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar, Makhan Singh, Surjit Singh Pacha Kalan, Kuka Singh Nathana and others said for 72 years, the Centre and state government, along with various government officials, did not take any notice of their plight.
On the occasion, Sampuran Singh, Satpal Goel and Naib Singh Aulakh also addressed the labourers.
