In a 1st for Bokaro, 60-yr-old transgender in fray for mukhiya post
Bokaro: Rajkumari Kinnar (60) has become the first transgender to file her nomination papers for the post of mukhiya in for panchayat election. Rajkumari filed her nomination papers for the Ritudih panchayat mukhiya under the Chas block of the district on Wednesday.
A social worker, Rajkumari spent her life bringing up eight orphan children. “There are places without proper roads and drains in the panchayat. If I am elected, I will start construction of these structures,” she said. Notably, the Ritudih panchayat is located just outside the Bokaro Steel Township. Rajkumari raised eight orphans with the money she collected by wandering Bokaro’s streets and shops every day. Locals of Ritudih claimed that she generously contributed to the development and welfare of the area. “Besides trying to bring about development, I will also give away a portion of my earnings to the poor, if elected,” she said.
Rajkumari’s move to contest the polls has come as a beacon of hope for the Kinnar community here. The Kinnar Samaj is conducting door-to-door campaigns to seek votes for her. In the 2019 assembly election, a transgender named Babita Hijra had contested as an independent candidate for the Bokaro seat but lost. DIVY KHARE
