IGNITED ROMANCE INDEED: 20-Year-Old Dalit Girl From Kancheepuram Found Hanging With Burns On Body; Folks Allege Boyfriend Held
B Roja, 20, a Dalit girl of Aandi Siruvallur village near Walajabad. Worked at a private firm in Kancheepuram, said police. On November 21, Roja, who went for work, did not return home, and her family complained to Kancheepuram Taluk police station. On November 23. However, on Wednesday, just two kilometers away from her house, the girl was found hanging dead in a private garden. According to the police, the garden comes under the possession of a powerful politician.
Investigation revealed R Rajesh, 30, from the neighboring Karai village, belonged to a dominant caste group, was in a relationship with the deceased. It was later found that Rajesh is already married and has two children, police added.
The police told that Roja’s family, who contacted Rajesh on November 21, was told he would drop her back home. Although, Roja’s father was against this relationship. However, later, he said to her parents that she left for home herself before she was found dead with bruises on Thursday.
The Kin’s Despair
“The day my daughter was found dead, my wife and I confronted Rajesh, and initially, he blamed my daughter for her death. But a while later, he said that my daughter died because of him and challenged me to do whatever I can,” read the complaint.
The complaint also stated that when the woman went missing. One of her siblings contacted Rajesh to check if she was with him. At that time, Rajesh affirmatively said to Roja’s brother that she was right with him. In the complaint, Bhoopathi, Roja’s father, also mentioned that Rajesh and his friends might have gang-raped his daughter and murdered her.
Raped Then Incinerated
Roja’s body has been sent to Kancheepuram Government Hospital, and the investigation is underway. The police is also awaiting autopsy results of the woman to ascertain whether she had been raped before her death. However, police have registered a case under section 306 of IPC (Abetment to suicide) and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Police said that the parts would be altered if required based on the post-mortem results.
