Devarakonda Harish Kumar, a Dalit man, was murdered in front of his girlfriend Manisha allegedly by her brother Deendayal and his friends.
The Cyberabad police on March 5 arrested 10 of the 11 accused in an alleged honour killing of a Dalit man in Petbasheerabad area of Hyderabad. The murder took place on March 1.
Devarakonda Harish Kumar, a Dalit man, was murdered in front of his girlfriend Manisha allegedly by her brother Deendayal and his friends.
Harish, a DJ sound system operator, was in a relationship with Manisha, who belongs to a backward community. Manisha’s relatives previously had warned Harish to stay away from her but the couple eloped on February 22. They had reportedly taken an apartment on rent in Petbasheerabad area and were planning on getting married soon.
The accused took Manisha away after they stabbed Harish with knives near Hanuman temple in Dulapally, the police said. Harish died on the spot because of severe injuries.
Deendayal enlisted the help of his friends T Naresh, Venkatesh Goud and others to execute the murder, Petbasheerabad SHO Gauri Prashanth told reporters.
The police arrested 22-year-old G Akshay Kumar, K Rohith Singh, 20, Aniketh Parwary, 21, K Manish, 23, Buri Sainath, 21 on charges of conspiracy and murder.
Harish’s best friend Rajendra Kumar and his partner Navanitha were also arrested for ratting out the couple’s hideout details and for getting Harish out of his home as per plan.
According to police, Rajendra Kumar helped Harish to find a place to stay and got him a job as a security guard after he eloped with Manisha. When Manisha’s brother called Rajendra under the guise of a police officer, he gave away all details of their hideout and assisted Deendayal. One accused is still absconding.
Rajendra Kumar and Navanitha called the couple to come out as Deendayal and his friends waited outside with knives. After stabbing Harish to death, they took Manisha away with them.
Deendayal felt that their family’s reputation was damaged and wanted revenge, police said.
