Honour killing: Dalit organisations demand speedy trial
Nalgonda: A bandh was observed in Miryalaguda on Saturday against the brutal murder of a Dalit youth, Perumalla Pranay Kumar. Members of various Dalit organisations staged a dharna at Ambedkar statue and took out bike rally demanding action against those responsible for the murder. Schools, colleges, theatres, hotels, petrol bunks and business establishments voluntarily supported the bandh call given by the Dalit organisations.
Members of Mala Mahanadu, MRPS, Kula Vivaksha Porata Samithi(KVPS) and Telangana Parishad Erukula Hakkula Sangam demanded the government to set up a special court for speedy trial in the case. Meanwhile, SC Corporation Chairman Errokkla Srinivas visited Pranay Kumar’s house in the town and consoled his family members. Speaking on the occasion, SC Corporation Chairman said that it was not just an ‘honour killing’ but a ‘caste arrogance’. MRPS founder and president Manda Krishna Madiga also visited Pranay’s residence in the town and consoled his family members.
The police should immediately arrest Maruthi Rao (Amrutha’s father) and Sravan Kumar, who were accused in killing Pranay, he said and alleged that Maruthi Rao had earned hundreds of crores by encroaching lands of Dalits in and around Miryalaguda. He wanted the government to seize the properties of Maruthi Rao and give back the encroached lands to the Dalits. He demanded an inquiry by a High Court sitting judge into the murder. KVPS leader Paladugu Nagarjuna, Telangana Pradesh Erukala Sangam president Munupatu Bixam and MRPS leader Bakaram Srinu and others visited Pranay’s residence and paid condolences.
