HAU professor held for raping 16-yr-old Dalit domestic help
Hisar: A professor of the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar was arrested on Monday night for allegedly raping and threatening his minor maid, a 16-year-old Dalit girl. The 59-year-old professor, from the agriculture engineering college of HAU, was on Tuesday produced in a court that sent him to judicial custody.
Hisar police spokesperson Harish Bhardwaj said the Civil Lines police station registered a case against the professor under Sections 376 (1) (rape), 342 (illegal confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and Section 3(1) of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of
Atrocities) Act, 1989 on the complaint of the survivor.
Medical examination of the survivor confirmed that she had been raped, the police said.
The survivor had called the police control room (PCR) from her mobile phone on Sunday night, alleging that she had been raped. After some time, the police reached the professor’s residence and took the minor to the Civil Lines police station.
The survivor told police that she had broken ties with her father after he had married a second time. About 20 days ago, she took up the job of a domestic help in the accused professor’s house. She told the police that the professor stayed alone as his family members were living abroad.
The survivor claimed she went into kitchen on Sunday night when the accused called her to his room and allegedly raped her.
She later went back to her room and informed the PCR from her mobile phone about the incident.
