Harsimrat tears into govt over ‘inferior’ uniform
Bathinda, Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today asked Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to explain why winter uniforms were being distributed to government schoolchildren in summer, even as she demanded an inquiry into the supply of “poor quality uniform”.
As per statement issued here, the matter was brought to the notice of Harsimrat by Dalit women at Alisher Kalan village in Mansa district. A woman showed a uniform received by her for her daughter, which was several sizes smaller.
Other women also complained that the uniform was of very poor quality and not worth wearing. “It is unfortunate that the Central grant for the supply of winter uniform to 12 lakh schoolchildren of government schools in the state had been misappropriated with the supply of poor quality and ill-fitting uniform,” she alleged. She said she had been receiving complaints from the constituency that children of Class VIII and IX were receiving uniform, which could be worn by students of Class II and III. “Central funds are being looted and there is a big scam in the supply of uniforms to 12 lakh students,” she said.
