Former Youth Akali president amongst three booked for ‘torturing’ Dalit helper
PATIALA: The district police have registered a case against three persons for alleging torturing a helper at a shop by stripping him of his clothes, hitting him with rods and later sharing the video clip on social media.
The Dalit helper, along with his wife and one and half-year-old son had gone missing after the incident and the family suspects that they have committed suicide as they left a note behind. The bodies of the three have not been traced so far.
SSP MS Sidhu said after conducted elaborate investigations a case Under Sections 34, 323, 355, 506, 34 IPC and Section 66E of the IT Act along with Section 3(1) (e) of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (POA) amendment Act of 2015 (1 of 2016) has been registered against former president of the district unit of the youth Akali Dal Vicky Riwaz, Amandeep Singh Chintu, who owns a mobile store and one on the complaint filed of Ravi, brother of the victim.
As per the allegations levelled by the family member of the Dalit youth, the three accused along with two other accomplices had allegedly locked Pawan in a storeroom and thrashed him while video graphing the act. The accused suspected that he had committed a theft and the matter had even been reported to the police. But since nothing incriminating was found against Pawan, the complaint had been dismissed, claimed Kotwali SHO .
It was alleged that the accused suspected the Pawan had stolen some cash from the shop. After which they forced Pawan to remove his clothes and started beating him up. This was videographer by one of the accused and later shared on various social media platforms. In the video, the boy was seen repeatedly seeking an apologising from his tormentors, who continue to hit with a rod.
Pawan’s family members had filed a missing complaint with the Kotwali police on August 2, in which they had alleged that on July 31, after returning home, Pawan told them that he was taken to the police station and when the police refused to take any action against him, the accused took him to the storeroom, stripped him naked and repeatedly thrashed him. The next day he was again taken to the police station and made to sit there till the evening, but nothing could be found against him. On August 2, when his video went viral, Pawan along with his wife and one and half-year-old son left the home after which they are untraceable till date. They left behind a note in which they claimed that they were going to commit suicide by jumping into the Bhakra canal.
The SHO of Kotwali police station claimed that they had started the investigation into the missing complaint and after establishing all the fact, an FIR was registered on Wednesday against three accused whose names had cropped up during the investigations. He said Pawan, his wife and son were still missing and efforts were on to trace them. However, no arrests have been confirmed until Wednesday evening.
