FIR filed against Haveri doc for attempted rape, assault on Dalit woman

Haveri: A first information report (FIR) was registered at Haveri women’s police station against Dr Parasappa Churchihal, a resident medical officer (RMO), for allegedly attempting to rape and assault a woman from a reserved community.
The Dalit woman accused Dr Churchihal of attempting to rape her at his official quarters behind the district hospital on Feb 13, while she was visiting his residence for domestic work. The complainant who belongs to the SC community, has been employed as domestic help at the district hospital quarters for several years. She stated that Dr Parasappa Churchihal attempted to rape her when his wife and children were absent.
She said he assaulted her and made casteist remarks. She said she managed to escape and sought refuge in a residence nearby. Following the incident, the complainant discontinued her work at the district hospital quarters. She alleged that Dr Churchihal was harassing her brother, who is employed at Haveri district hospital. Subsequently, the victim and her family members protested against Dr Churchihal outside Haveri district hospital, citing police inaction.
