Fee not revised, ITIs unsure of refund
Chandigarh, June 3. The Social Welfare Department has been “sitting” on a decision to fix the revised fee to be reimbursed to private Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) by the government under the post-matric scholarship scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) students.
For the last five months, the Social Welfare Department has failed to implement a decision of the Technical Education Department to fix the fee at Rs 19,312 (engineering trades) and Rs 12,875 (non-engineering trades) for 225 private ITIs. With admissions in progress for the academic session 2019-2020, many SC students who are keen to enrol themselves at private ITIs are unable to get admissions as the technical institutes are waiting for the orders of the Social Welfare Department on fee structure.
Repeated efforts to reach out to Social Welfare Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot remained futile as his personal staff cited his inability to talk due to his busy schedule. — TNS
Chandigarh: Reacting to The Tribune story on the state government’s inability to reimburse the scholarship amount of SC students, the AAP has blamed both Capt Amarinder Singh and Narendra Modi governments for ruining the future career prospects of lakhs of Dalit students by delaying release of the post-matric scholarship. All Dalit MLAs of the party, including LoP Harpal Singh Cheema, in a joint statement have criticised both the Punjab and Union Governments for being “insensitive” to the cause of Dalit students.
