Faridabad News: Dalit youth dies in police custody
Family alleges death due to excessive use of third degree
Faridabad. Dalit youth Amit, accused of stabbing at Mall of Faridabad located at NIT-2, died in police custody on Monday morning. Police claim that at six in the morning, accused Amit cut a piece of blanket and tied it to the ventilator of the Crime Branch lockup located in Sector-65 and hanged himself. On the other hand, Amit’s family has accused the police of using third degree and has expressed suspicion of murder. The post-mortem of the youth’s body has been done under the supervision of CJM. The case is also being investigated by the CJM.
An incident of stabbing took place at Mall of Faridabad located at NIT-2 on Friday night after an altercation between two youths of Ghazipur village. Harish (34) and Amit Kori (27) son of Gyasi Kori, both residents of village Ghazipur, came to NIT-2 mall in an Alto car on Friday evening. After roaming in the mall, both of them got into an argument over money in Basement One. It is alleged that Amit attacked Harish with a knife. Harish was seriously injured in the attack. Amit was stabbed in the stomach. Harish is being treated in the ICU of a private hospital. Amit reached the district hospital for treatment.
Police had taken Amit into custody on Friday night itself. Crime Branch-65 police brought him to the lockup for interrogation. Here Amit was interrogated in the presence of his brother Sumit. Amit died on Monday morning. Meanwhile, Amit’s family alleges that Amit died due to third degree torture by the police. Father Gyaasi Lal and brother Sumit said that the police team forcibly took Amit with them in an injured state from BK Hospital on the night of July 5, beating him for interrogation.
Amit’s family lives on rent
Gyaasi Kori, originally a resident of Raidas village in Palwal, has been living in Ghazipur on the land of Harish’s family for the last seven-eight years. Gyaasi, Amit and Sumit work in different private companies.
Police accused of beating Amit
Police had also detained Amit’s brother Sumit, accused of the stabbing incident, from his home in Ghazipur village. Sumit told his family that the crime branch police had beaten Amit in front of him. Amit also had knife wounds in his stomach. There were stitches on his stomach, and the policemen were punching the stitches. Amit’s father Gyasi said that on Sunday evening, the crime branch police had also taken him from his Jajru village in Palwal for questioning.
Postmortem done in front of CJM
The postmortem of Amit’s body was done in front of Chief Judicial Officer Sandeep Yadav. Since it is a case of death in police custody, the CJM will investigate the matter.
