DJ murder: SC/ST Act charges added to FIR, family gets aid
Bathinda: The family of disc jockey (DJ), who was allegedly shot dead after refusing to play music after midnight at a premarriage party, agreed to cremate the body after police added sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and arrested the main accused, and the district administration released an initial compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the family and promised a second installment of Rs 4.5 lakh in few days.
Karan Singh (18) was shot dead at the residence of Major Singh, a night before marriage of his son. Police booked five persons.
The family had started an indefinite protest at Kot Ise Khan on Tuesday, but withdrew by afternoon after police announced to add charges under SC/ST Act and arrested main accused Sukhdeep Singh. On Monday, another accused Jagroop Singh was arrested.
The administration handed over the cheque of Rs 4 lakh under the SC/ST Act. Moga deputy commissioner Sandeep Hans said the second installment of Rs 4.5 lakh would be given in a few days.
The protesters on Monday heckled Dharamkot MLA Sukhjeet Singh Lohgarh and vandalised his vehicle when he reached Moga civil hospital to condole the family.
