Dalits not safe in Tamil Nadu, saysL Murugan
Chennai: Dalits are not safe in Tamil Nadu, Union minister of state for parliamentary affairs L Murugan said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Murugan said, “Atrocities against dalits have increased tremendously in Tamil Nadu after DMK came to power in 2021. A survey says more than 2,000 cases of atrocities against dalits are reported every year in Tamil Nadu. The murder of BSP state president K Armstrong shows Tamil Nadu govt has failed to maintain law and order.”
He cited some incidents that happened since DMK came to power in which dalits were victims. They include the murder of BJP state SC wing functionary Balachandar and the rape of a 22-year-old dalit girl in March 2022.
He said, “DMK, which claims to be a champion of social justice, does not actually follow social justice. Dalit panchayat presidents are not even permitted to sit in their chairs or hoist the national flag.”
Earlier, a delegation of BJP functionaries led by V P Duraisamy went to Delhi and met Murugan.
