Dalit woman found injured while returning from dinner with friend, dies in hospital
Agra: A 24-year-old Dalit woman died at Mainpuri District Hospital after being found injured under suspicious circumstances near her village, in the Alau area of Mainpuri district, on Saturday evening. She had been returning home after having dinner at a female friend’s house in the same village.
The victim’s brother alleged in his complaint that Govind Singh, alias Ramu, and four associates murdered his sister over a financial dispute. He said she had loaned around 5 lakh rupees to Govind, a resident of a neighbouring village, as they knew each other well. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections, including Section 103 (murder) of the BNS Act.
The brother said, “She went to meet her friend and was supposed to return home with her. In the evening, a villager informed us that my sister was lying unconscious in a field. We rushed to the spot, took her to the police station, and then to the district hospital, where she was declared dead.”
The victim’s uncle alleged, “Govind murdered her and dumped her body in a field near Vidhya Nagar. She had been demanding repayment of the loan she gave him.”
A case under relevant sections, including the SC/ST Act, has been registered. “The body has been sent for a postmortem examination, and action will be taken based on the report,” said Savita Senger, the station house officer of Alau police station.
