Dalit man murdered, body found hanging from tree in farmland
MUZAFFARNAGAR: The body of a 50-year-old Dalit man was found hanging from a tree in Charthawal, under Muzaffarnagar late nighton Wednesday.
The deceased, Dharam Das, an electrician, had gone to retrieve money from a debtor, but didn’t return home. Late in the night, his body was spotted by a passerby hanging from a tree in farmland, and informed his family, who reached the spot with neighbours in their village.
When the villagers created chaos at Hakimpura road, local police rushed to the spot and launched a probe in the matter. Police sent 8/23/2019 Dalit man murdered, body found hanging from tree in farmland the body, which had been strung up with Das’s own trousers, for postmortem and registered a case against two people — Yogesh and Jitender — both residents of Muzaffarnagar, after Das’s brother filed a complaint with Charthawal police against them, alleging they had borrowed money from the deceased.
According to sources, the family alleged the duo had hanged Das’s body after murdering him. Charthawal SHO Sube Singh said, “A case under Section 302 (murder) of IPC, and the SC/ST Act, has been registered, and probe is on.”
According to sources, Das’s motorcycle was found on the road near the spot where his body was found. It’s being assumed that Das was forcibly taken to the the farm, where he was murdered
